Most definitely Legend of Dragoon. Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts are of course some of my favorites as well, but nothing has yet to beat the awesomeness and pure triumph that is Legend of Dragoon

Just me nitpicking, but if the initial-ism in the thread title were disassembled, the whole thing would read: "What's your favorite role playing game game?" Point being, the second "game" is redundant, so you don't need it when referring to RPGs.

My favorite? Hell... I play RPGs for a very specific reason. What always delighted me most about them was the distinct feeling of working your way up from a nobody to a hero, from a slum rat struggling with overgrown bats to a warrior loaded down with powerful artifacts and weapons, ready to take on the gods themselves. This in addition to a compelling narrative, exquisite enemy variety, impressive environments, and a whole mess of extra content.

All that in mind, I'd say my fondest experiences were with Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Final Fantasy IX, and Kingdom Hearts. I always got a real sense of progression playing those games. Retreading old ground was not a chore, but a delight, as I could compare my strength then and now as well as pick up any collectibles or unique gear I couldn't reach before. The environments were fresh and vivid, bosses were good fun, the story of each was a pleasure to watch unfold (lol), and each had its own unforgettable moments in narrative and gameplay aspects.

Runner-up goes to Growlanser Generations, comprised of Growlanser II: The Sense of Justice and Growlanser III: The Dual Darkness, both of which I like for very different reasons. They're essentially date-sim RPGs, but this lends itself to a surprising amount of attention to detail, both in character development and in PC-to-NPC interaction. Not to mention the battle system is unique in its own little ways, rewarding careful planning and deft management of resources. (Each game can also be horribly, horribly broken, but that's another matter entirely.)

As of this very moment, Persona 4.

I must add, though, that I am currently rabid about the Shin Megami Tensei series and it's spinoffs so any game that is under this label AND has been released in the West is considered to be my favorite.

    ^Does that post mean you don't want us to post in here anymore? ; A ;

    Well too bad, I'm posting!
My favorite RPG would have to be .hack, it might get a little repetitive with the gameplay, but I always loved the characters in the games and how everything played out. Though, Kingdom Hearts is also a favorite, of course.

A favourite of mine at the moment is NIER, replaying it at the moment for trophies and for the amazing story and music :D
Though it does get a bit depressing as you get each ending...Still it's a great game XD

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

In terms of being a proper RPG and loving the game for those elements, then definitely that. Perfect mix of turn based and real time strategy.

The only real issue I found with that game was that there was nothing new you could really do besides choosing Good or Bad scenarios, and the story was really short at that. It was a good game, but I just wish there was more to it

Well I have always been a Pokemon nut, those were really the only RPG's I used to love as a kid. But I cannot for the life of me only pick 1 RPG. For pokemon is must be Ruby and Sapphire for nostalgic reasons alone. That was my first pokemon game as a child and I loved the entire plot of the game with team magma/ aqua. Now I also have a love for Final Fantasy and I will say this even though I will probably be looked at with confusion. For Final Fantasy it would be XIII. I really loved the entire story. There was never one moment where I got bored. I also just fell in love with the gameplay. If more games were like that I would be very very willing to play them. Now recently I have played my first Tales of game known as Tales of the Abyss. I coud not stop playing it at all. I have lost many hours of sleep for that game. It has honestly one of the best RPG stories I have ever witnessed. The gameplay was phenomenal as well. I really can not narrow it down to just 1. I will say I have a favorite turned based (RubyxSapphire), hack n' slash (TofA), and the one that is in between the two (XIII).

Secret of Mana. It saddens me that Final Fantasy has overshadowed it by so much. Secret of Mana was Square's first good instance of Moogles appearing though it is the second game Moogles ever appeared in. The Moogle Belt was fun. I miss the Mana series. Coming as a close second is the recently released Dragon's Dogma. Best action RPG I've played and the first game I've seen with proper dragon combat.

FF7 Crisis Core is my favorite. Amazing story, great gameplay, voice acting was authentic, and don't even get me started on those beautiful graphics! It was a lovely game overall:3
What I'd have to criticize though is the DMW ;p very random and not skill-based.
But yeah! That game is addicting! I finished it in a bout a week or less.

I'd have to say the Legend of Dragoon. Don't know why, it just sticks out when compared to other games I've played I guess.

nice coontributan. i leik final fantasy ix 'cause i leik eet.

Lately I've taken a very big shine to Dragon's Dogma. It's a pretty fun game, with some excellent gameplay. It's fairly challenging too, without being cheap and annoying like Demon's/Dead Souls, so that's fun. We need more challenging games that aren't just being cheap.

Gotta be Chrono Trigger. That game has aged spectacularly.

    FFX.

I don't think i'll ever play game like it did this one. Come home from a bad day, start the game and completely detach yourself from the real world.
