i was thinking this for awhile. i played out this scene in my head from ep. 37 of death note. Light: tell me near, do you know what happens when you give up the death note? (near thinks) they loss all memory of the death note. you wouldn't kill anyone who doesn't know they did anything wrong. go ahead, ask the shimigami (near looks at ryuk) ryuk: it's true. once a human gives up ownership, they loss all memories of the death note. Light: my time is done. I GIVE UP OWNERSHIP OF THE DEATH NOTE! (losses memories). now, if light did that; would he still be killed for being kira. he has no memory of the death note. just something i thought about.
Depends. He might be killed, since technicly, his death was never recorded (not like they could release that he was kira. that would cause a mass panic) They might keep him alive because he would be so useful in the force. Keeping him alive though might be dangerous if he finds out that he had ownership of the death note, because he might think of staying alive. He could also commit suicide. But then again, knowing Light, he would most likely think to himself "What would I do if I still had ownership of the death note, and all that stuff really did happen to me....", and if he did that, then he would then begin to take action. Knowing Near, Light would still be killed then, because he would always be a threat
