Yeah, because it's fun making fun of others who have a different view point than you, right?

More like its frustrating trying explain to people that evolution is a scientifically proven theory while they are still spouting their propaganda, usually in the same breath as railing on gay people. There is having a different view point and then there is a complete refusal to understand even the most basic scientific principles, and then claim that you are qualified to speak on scientific matters and determine whether younger generations are taught fact or fiction in the classroom.

    ...

Yeah, called it, this is going to become a battlezone. I'm leaving before things get too ugly.

Creationists have faith, which means they blindly follow their belief system, whatever that may be "god created the earth in a week" and that particular jazz, yes there's evidence for evolution but they can still throw their "god made the evidence" card, honestly I dont understand why people still try to argue on both fronts, since an evolutionist isn't going to believe what a creationist says and vice versa, one of those fun things in life.

It would be a sign of decent respect to not try and force your opinion upon another side, I have no problem with religious views, as long as they aren't crammed down my throat, so I wont cram scientific data down a creationists throat, only fair.

No need for a flame war, I dun doused this thread with a strong dose of me.

Everybody knows that the "proof" of evolution is forged. People who follow science blindly are as backwards as the people who followed christianity blindly in the dark ages.

Ugh, not this again. I just want to clear up one thing and then I'm out.

Everybody has faith. Scientists have as much faith in the scientific method as religious people have in their religion of choice. Faith is by no means restricted to the religious and not all faith is blind faith.

The debate's going to rage from now until time stops and I personally don't care but I DO care when one system tries to impose it's ideology on another like republicans and abortion. They can't impose it on her and make her to anything.

Same with creationists and evolutionists. Two different ideas and nether are willing to compromise.

Two men are standing on top of a building, both are considering jumping. One man has faith that if he jumps off, he'll fall to his death. The other believes if he jumps, he will fly to the clouds.
Both jump simultaneously. As they rapidly approach the concrete, the first man laughs and says he was right.
Moral of the story: they both die.
I wouldn't say as much faith. Though you clarified by stating that not all faith is blind faith, science has a lot more credibility than religion when it comes to what we know for sure, what's likely, what's absurd, and what is probably not true.

It's a common misconception that faith in religion has an equal merit as science.

    It does not.

    The reason is simple.
    The definition of fact;

something that actually exists; reality; truth
something known to exist or to have happened
a truth known by actual experience or observation; something known to be true

None of these are even remotely accurate to what faith is.
I don't give two shits what your religion is, but you can't disprove science using faith.

Evolution is proven on a yearly basis in medicine. Different diseases change due to some individual's resistance to certain cures.

    THIS^

I'm a baptist, I believe what I believe, and everybody believes what they want to believe. I don't throw my beliefs into other peoples faces. I don't judge them for what they believe in, it's not my place to do so. I don't care what people believe, i don't care what age you are, what sex you are, what race you age, what your faith is in. I accept the man or woman for who they are, and nothing else. If you hate me, then that is your choice, I try to change that. If you believe in science or a god or some higher power, i'm not gonna tell you your wrong or that i'm right. This world we live in is created and by the choices we make. I choose to believe in God, and I choose to do what I want as well. Weather that is hanging out with gays, atheist, or people of beliefs. I have friends of all different views of the world, and I accept that of them. If you all think me as a hypocrite, your right, I am. I'm not here to change your views on me or yourself. I'm just here to live my life till I die.

Just you wait a couple of decades, then you will see that scientists have gone away from evolution, at least in the form that we know it today. Facts aren't always true, y'know. It's like with history, it's just the version that people have agreed is correct, but in reality there is a lot of false things about it. Therefore, science is only fact to you, if you put all of your faith into it.

I honestly don't think so. The ground rules are the same, we came from the apes, which is why we have 98% of their genetic build. Perhaps some of the explanations may change as we learn more, but they will not move away from evolution as the ground idea.

This goes along with the whole "everyone's entitled to their opinion" thing. But are you really entitled to an opinion if it's proven wrong?

Pet peeve: when someone claims to not care what religion, political affiliation, or any other type of ideology a person has and accepts the person for who he/she is. A lot of people's ideologies are a big part of who they are.

I actually have a question for everyone here.
I would like to know why you believe what you believe on this topic.
I would like a more complex answer than "my science book or bible told me."

If anything, that's micro evolution, not "evolution".

Well, there's a difference between accepting people and their views, than being best friends with them.

The 98% ape genetics still stands, though. It isn't that micro if you think about it. 2% of DNA alteration is huge.

I have weighed the two against each other.
I've read up on creationist. God supposedly created Earth. Creationism means that you believe that earth is less than 10,000 years old. This is not true. There are tons of evidence that disproves this. Dinosaurs did live.

We share 98% of our genetic build with Apes. We have so much hard evidence. PROOF that we evolved from the apes. Until I am proven wrong about the Earth being less than 10,000 years, I'm going to believe in evolution.

This is the kind of thing that makes evolutionists look bad.

Absolute truth cannot be known from the observation of external entities. You assume that because a set of things is strongly coherent when pieced together, they must truly exist or truly be what you analyze them to be. You cannot prove that any of them are true by themselves, but by leaning them against each other, you can somehow claim that they are 'true' by nature of 'making sense' together. The only thing that you have shown to be true is that they are compatible with each other. You have not proven that any of the pieces are 'true' or 'real'.

This is akin to taking an imaginary jigsaw puzzle, completing it, and then claiming that the image is real. In all likelihood, the image is something of your creation; a result of your mind trying to make sense of its perception. Any measure of the universe is actually just a measure of what what our brains are capable of seeing at this time. If you believe in facts, then you are as bad as anyone with absolute faith.

As always, appeal to what is practical, and not what is 'true'. If you claim to know the truth, then you are the same as others who claim it.

Fact and truth in a way, are different.

What is fact to one person is not always true to another.
What is true to one person is not always fact to another.

Our perspective on life and our world around us is truely unique to us all.
