This is quite an ironic post, I'm used to giving the advice rather than asking for it but here goes:
Long story short me and my friends went camping, everyone decided to go to the beach on a late night stroll, I on the other hand was voted to stay behind to look after our stuff. Later that night I found out that all my friends got robbed at the beach and three of them have been landed in A and E (one of which is on this site under the name of maikeu69.) My problem is what if, what if I had acctually gone I could of helped I could of stopped my friends getting hospitalised, a simple twist of fate like my shoes getting untied could of saved them all, but what can I do now, what can I say now? I feel so gilty........

Ok dude listen it's not your fault. What could you have done to help if you went to?? You would have gotten robbed also. You didn't know what was going to happen were they good kids?? Do they drink drugs etc.?? If yes it's good you didn't go

Coulda woulda shoulda. Nothing you can ever do will ever let you know whether or not you could have done anything. Trust me, you can't go through your life dwelling on the past. There's no point. You weren't there, it wasn't your fault. Maybe you could have done something, maybe you couldn't have. YOU WILL NEVER, EVER KNOW. There's no point wondering.

What Bushido said. You dwell on the past too much, you forget the present, and neglect the future. Yes, what happened was awful, and yes, you're going to feel guilty that you weren't there to help them, but unless you have the Tardis parked in your garage you're not going to be able to go back in time and fix it. Look at it as you being better prepared should the same situation happen again (which we all hope they won't).

They voted you to stay behind. Consider yourself lucky and just don't think about it too much. When you start to replace "what did" with "what if" you start to feel worse about it. Just let it go and try to cheer them all up.
