So I had to choose a movie to write about for film class, and West Side Story was on the list of approved movies we could watch, so I thought, "Hey, I've always wanted to watch this cause everyone's always talking about it, this is my chance!"

    So I watched it...

And, I've gotta say, I really don't see why people like it so much. I basically felt like making fun of it/laughing the entire time -_- Some of the songs were kind of catchy, but, I mean, the entire thing was just kind of... silly. Definitely not what I expected at all. And it was reeeally long, and parts of it were very slow (in my opinion).

Has anyone else seen it? Do you disagree/agree with my opinion of it?

I've watched The Westside Story before and I'll tell you now that I didnt undertsand why people liked it so much either. I'm guessing it was because all of that musical stuff, but there wasn't much dialogue in it, just dancing, dancing and more dancing. I sort-of liked it [lol-it's better than HSM] Yeahh I do agree with you, I get the story-line and everything, but honestly I think I would find it hard to write about that film.

    Good Luck, though :'D

Lol yeah, I wish I'd chosen something else -_- I didn't know what I was getting myself into...

Now I have to figure out how to write four pages on one scene... ugh...

    >:C what the hell are you talking about? Its a great film

Plus there is loads you can talk about, the parallels with Romeo and Juliet for one thing put into a more modern context, class rivalry, fighting between different cultures and races. You can go so far into the whole divisions in society thing. For its time it was amazing.

You just have to put the right spin on it, sometimes going for the direct approach isn't always the best thing to do.

Well I'm not really supposed to write about the parallels to Romeo and Juliet because "it's too easy" >:(

I think I do know what I'm gonna right about though, so thank goodness.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate the movie. I just didn't think it was that amazing... I think my expectations were too high. I did think the dancing was cool though... just the story line was sort of silly (I always think it's silly that Romeo and Juliet like got married/were willing to die for each other after meeting like, twice, so since this is based off of that... I was expecting it, but still...).

But if you like it, then that's great, go right ahead and keep on liking it. It's just not my cup of tea.

xD sorry if you thought I was being too harsh love, wasn't my intention.

I think it is unfair for you to be told that you can't even look into the R&J association. I can understand the whole high expectations ruining a film, it has happened to me before too.

<: I am just a little defensive over it because I adore it.

I've seen it before, but it was a while ago. XD Musicals do get me bored sometimes, and I was told it was like Romeo and Juliet almost, so I was expecting one of the two people to die. To tell you the truth, my eyes watered towards the end, so I guess it was a good movie. ^^

If you said the scenes were long, writing four pages won't be so bad. XDD Good luck on your review. At least you were spared from doing a review on Twilight. *Gags* No offense to Twilight lovers... ><
