I'm just thinking about this because my uncle has cancer and is getting kemotherapy (sp?) but...

Kemotherapy is a thing that is set to kill the cancer, but also kills good bacteria, and the immune system. So, If kemotherapy doesn't kill the cancer, wouldn't that just be hurting him more???

    Its spelt Chemotherapy <3

I am sorry to hear about your uncle.

I am no expert on chemotherapy, there are side effects to its use yes, but, I think that if it was a serious health threat that outweighed the benefits of it (the chances of destroying the cancer) then they wouldn't use it.

Like I said, I am no expert.

Though if you leave cancer untreated, it WILL get worse, I guess really you have to take every chance you have.

In most cases, Chemo does kill all or most of the cancer. With more severe cancers, it can kill off most of it an give the patient several more years of life. Yes, it does tend to kill the immune system, but that in itself is not fatal. Your uncle just needs to avoid sick people and be sure to get meds for any sickness he gets (because he won't be able to fight it off himself) until he stops the chemo.

There are always risks. And yes, it kills the immune system but it also tries to kill the cancer. And if it gets rid of the cancer then you can stop, me thinks.

I'm really sorry about your uncle. D:

Yea, they stop the treatment once the cancer dies or gets as small as it's gonna get. Oh, and the treatment does cause hair loss.

But don't worry. I had a grandfather and an aunt go through this treatment. It worked for my grandpa, though he later died of a stroke, but my aunt is still alive and cancer-free.

Ya the therapy is supposed to kill only the deformed and changed cancer cells only to cure the person, maybe it could kill the immune system...

The good thing about the human body is, in most cases, if something is out of balance, the body will correct it. So, even though the chemo does kill off many white blood cells, they grow back.

I have enver agreed with Kemotherapy/ radiation. 'Ya know what else has radiation? Bombs. So I mean, what does that tell about the treatment?

It's not like you're being nuked; it's much more controlled/concentrated than a bomb. And what else has radiation? Reactors. Should we get rid of those, too, even though they provide a large amount of power?

A scalpel can both save someones life and take it. A computer, if dropped in water, can kill someone. A hammer can bash someone's skull in. A pencil can kill, if used wrong. Hell, even LIGHT is a form of radiation. A nuclear bomb's radiation is secondary to the explosion, and is a completely different type of radiation. Chemotherapy is completely harmless in the long run, and has saved countless millions of lives. Are you really willing to let cancer patients DIE simply because a technique is merely similar to a machine of war? If you even think yes, you sicken me.
