I got my laptop in June, and everything has, for the most part, run smoothly.
A few days ago (Monday, I believe), my webcam suddenly stopped working. My friends and I were recording a video for fun, and then it said that the webcam encountered a problem and had to close; when I restarted it, everything was extremely dark.

That's what it looks like, and it only picks up bright lights, such as ones found in schools, offices, etc.
I tried using the included System Recovery; I uninstalled the MediaSmart webcam and then reinstalled it, and even tried resetting the system to an earlier date, but no use.
I've also tried adjusting video settings in the control panel for the webcam itself, also didn't do anything.
If anyone has an answer or even a suggestion as to how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated, since this is rather important to get it working again.

Is it a built-in webcam or usb?

What program do you use it in? And if it's compatible with something like Windows Live Messenger or Skype does the picture look the same?

Yeah, it looks the same, I tested it in MSN and the normal HP software that is for the webcam. :/
Could something possibly be wrong with the camera itself rather than the software?

My guess is that there's a setting somewhere that needs to be changed, either way it does seem to be the camera/camera settings.
