Hey guys. I don't own a psp or nintendo DS so I haven't been able to play Days, BBS, Re:Coded or Dream Drop Distance. I was just wondering if I would be able to follow the plot to any of these four titles just by watching the cutscene archives on this site. Thanks for the help.

I would recommend watching them by chronological order. Here's the order you would want to follow:

    Birth by Sleep ---> Kingdom Hearts 1 -----> Chain of Memories -----> 358/2 Days ----> Kingdom Hearts 2 -----> Re:Coded ------> Dream Drop Distance

Thanks. Chain of Memories had such a good story, its a shame it didn't get as much attention as KH1 and KH2.
I'm hoping the others will be just as good :)

It should be rather easy--I've accumulated my knowledge of the games by watching our cutscenes and reading over our threads here, with a bit of backup help from the Kingdom Hearts Wiki, which is good for providing information on some of the lore in the Kingdom Hearts universe. If you have more questions about the series or its more abstract concepts though, you should definitely start a thread here and ask!

Honestly, this^. I used to consider myself an expert on the KH series and I've only played CoM (the original and I never beat Marluxia>>), KH1 (never got too far into it due to a broken Playstation 2), and KH2 (got to the last boss, but didn't win. It was rented so I didn't have a chance to beat it). Our Cutscene Archive, our threads, and the KH wiki have given me pretty much EVERYTHING and more that playing the games will get you. Obviously you won't get the joy from playing them or experience the gameplay, but I say these three resources will give you 99% of the story.

    Also, one word of advice:

The DS games will be harder to follow with just the cutscenes. For 358/2 Days, wait for the HD 1.5 Remix. BbS and 3D won't be hard to follow, though.

The reason that is is because (with the exception of BBS and 3D) there are some scenes that just involve text bubbles/unvoiced scenes, and aren't found in the cutscene archive. That's why I recommended watching a walkthrough instead.

Yes, only do that for Days and Coded. The other games (ESPECIALLY BbS) are pretty lengthy. In fact, screw Coded. You don't need to know about that game. :)

Yeah my main concern was missing parts of the story that happen through text. I'll probably watch BBS and 3D first since I can compile the cutscenes all together like a movie instead of clicking from one to the next. Then for the other games I'll either wait for the HD remix (in America of course :)) or watch a walkthrough.
    Thanks for the advice everybody

You can find in-depth summaries online, so to be honest you don't even really need to watch the cutscenes.

Actually, after you watch Birth by Sleep, I'm starting a project that combine Kingdom Hearts, Chain of Memories, and 358/2 Days, since they're kinda intertwined. 358/2 Days starts after and Chain of Memories occurs during . I'm putting all of the cutscenes plus a few fights together in order to make an epic movie saga (about 4-6 movies in total!) :)

I don't own a PSP or 3DS either, so I used walkthroughs on Youtube. I highly recommend using walkthroughs over just watching the cutscenes, particularly for 358/2 Days (as much of that game depends on text and not spoken cutscenes). Walkthroughs of Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance are also recommended, as you get more of the game's atmosphere. It's probably the next best thing to literally playing them.

Here's a link to the channel I used to watch the walkthroughs of BBS and DDD: http://www.youtube.com/user/HassanAlHajry/videos?flow=grid&view=1

There's no commentary. Just the game itself. And the quality is among the best you'll find on Youtube (it's in HD).

If I recall right, one of the segments for the DDD walkthrough has a random comercial for a crass show at the beginning, so just skip over that and get to the good stuff ;) I have no idea why the uploader decided to tack that on to the walkthrough in the first place.

I found "movie" versions of every Kingdom Hearts game on youtube (except Dream Drop Distance). Most of the movies also include the text cutscenes as well as boss fights. This is definitely how I'll be watching the games I haven't played. Huge credits to the guys who took time to edit all this stuff together :D

If anyone's interested, I put all the movies into one playlist for myself on youtube:
