No. I don't think that he was justified, but he did it for evil reasons...and the only cause that I can remember him doing it for is because he needed to get the triforce......and that has the potential to be justified if there are important plans, and I could justifie it....but that is just me.....

He was easier to sympathize with. That's about it.

    *taps foot* where is he?

Anyway, my argument is that he bypasses the seal that locked him in place for 300 or so years, so he's significantly more mellow that he was at the end of OoT. He breaks out, everyone craps their pants and the gods take a note out of the bible and drop an ocean on everyone. Clearly they missed the memo that you use the flood if the target is over 99% evil. In this case, they did it to kill one man. It failed. So now Hyrule of old, which Ganondorf loved, is gone! Instead there are a few islands. He takes a few steps in self preservation, and seals the temples of the air and earth in order to weaken the master sword so he won't be killed prematurely.

Then he gets to work on discovering the triforce. He needs to form it to restore the Hyrule of old, that the gods decided to go apocalyptic on. He sends out his minions to find Zelda. He accidentally captures a few others, and keeps them in rather good condition at the top of his tower. (Okay, weak point there...) He finds Zelda, but before he can get her part of the triforce, a dragon blows up his tower.

He blasts down to old Hyrule and captures Zelda, then waits for Link to come. Link arrives and Ganondorf back-hands him, promises not to kill him and forms the triforce. He's about to restore old Hyrule, when the king appears and ruins his plans, destroying Hyrule. From that point on, he's got nothing much to loose, so he goes berzerk.

Is Ganondorf ever justified for seeking to control all three aspects of the world? I think not. How greedy.

He doesn't even want money, which is even worse! xD

    You lost the game already...

    There is only one Gannondorf.

Unlike other characters in the Zelda series who are basically reincarnations.

Gannondorf is always the same entity. We saw what happened when Gannondorf ruled a kingdome for 7 years!

Redeads ran the streets in packs! Imagine if he ran Hyrule for any longer period of time?

*eyetwitch* Ganondorf... Ganondorf... Ganondorf... One n...

But to be technical, they didn't run the streets. More limped the streets.

Anyway, it is the same Ganondorf. However this is a morose, 300 year old Ganondorf who has seen Hyrule and his race washed away, not a cocky Gerudo king.

Not to mention how much better of a King Ganondorf would have made. Restore the old world which people loved, or drop an ocean on it? Again?

I'd choose Ganondorf over the King of red lions anyday.

Well we all know Ganondorf is an evil king. He mutates the poeople of his otherwise happy kingdom into demonic entities. He did so when he took power in Ocrina of time. He did so when he took power in A Link To The Past. He did so in Twilight Princess.

Also, I don't think Gannondorf would change in 300 years if later on Gannnondorf was just as wicked and cruel later on.

Bottom line, Gannnnondorf rules mearly for his own ambition. And is the cliche "Lord Of Darkness" who's only ambition is to currupt the world into chaos.

You just had to mention aLttP... Now we need to debate on where that comes in the Zelda "timeline". Or we can handwave it.

Anyway, the great sea is not similar to aLttP because in aLttP, no one had anything to gain from Ganon getting the triforce. In WW, 75% of the islands were uninhabitable due to monsters (Which existed before Ganondorf came to power) and no one knew about old Hyrule. The two biggest islands were at opposite ends of the map and overall it was a lesser world than the original Hyrule. Ganondorf wanted to raise Hyrule up again. Now I assume that he was not going to make it a Dark World, because he let Link live. We are agreed that Ganondorf is the same guy each time (With the exception of the split timeline) and as he dies at the end of Wind Waker, it means it is the end of the line and a lot of games came before it with him as the villain. Now any villain who has been constantly thwarted by the same child every time should be angry. If they get the chance to kill the hero, they would go for it. But Ganondorf didn't. He calmly said he would not kill Link and summoned the triforce. Ganondorf is intelligent. He would not risk leaving Link alive if there was a chance he could interfere later. I think Link would heavily object to a dark world, so Ganondorf can't have been making a dark world.

I'd like to clarify Ganondorfs immortality... He is imortal. Even when he dies. Regardless of the split timeline, he has died more than twice. WW, TP, and the original Zelda are all confirmed kills of Ganon(dorf). So with a split timeline, Ganon is still immortal. As explained in AoL he must be resummoned using the blood of the hero that killed him after a confirmed kill though.

Going back to the topic at hand:

Ganodorf knows link is connected to the triforce. He is also more familiar with the triforce than any other character in the game. So he probably knows he simply cannot kill link. (Lots of speculation)

Ganondorf has died and come back a few times, yes. I don't know all the ins and outs, but he can be killed. See the Oracles for proof. (twinrova was trying to resurrect him)

Anyway, Link was seperated from his piece of the triforce at the end, as was ganondorf. That is why it was a confirmed kill. He didn't have the ToP, he was hit with light arrows (Silver arrows are needed to kill him as of aLttP, I assume light arrows do the same) and he was stabbed with the master sword. And it was the specific wish of the king for the ocean to wash Ganondorf away. So in Wind waker, he was killed. No doubt.

Back to the topic though, he can simply stab Link. The Link of WW was an "ordinary" child, as said by the King of Red Lions. He gathered the triforce of courage himself. He was separated from it at the end of the game. Then he was knocked unconscious. Ganondorf could quite easily have stabbed him. He mentioned that he would not kill Link, so I am going to assume he had the means to.

Therefore he wasn't going to do anything horrible to Hyrule, because Link would object to that and try to kill him. And as Ganon is not stupid, he would avoid that by killing Link.

    Just out of curiousity...

Where in time do you think WW takes place?

After Ocarina of time, adult timeline. (So Ganon was sealed, but everything done by him was still there)

And don't you dare bring up those Tingle messages. Tingle is a screwed up fairy who jumps about the timeline making rude signs at theorists.

    Hehehehe....Tingle....:D

Since I totally killed this, I say WW probably takes place in.....a somewhat separate timeline.....either that or in a VERY far future.....farther than TP maybe.
