For anyone, christian or not, most of you have heard of creation and how the earth was made in 7 days and all that, but science says that the earth is much older than the bible suggests. If God did infact create earth, was it really seven days? Maybe the seven days is a metaphor. Maybe God has a different perception of time. It's possible seeing as the Jesus told many stories and used metaphors. He even told his disciples that he'd return to earth "before the end of the generation" yet he's not here. But people still believe he's comming so maybe this generation isn't exactly what we thought. Maybe it's the 'human' generation. So, was it truely seven days, or was that some sort of metaphor or something that we misinterpreted. So, what do you think?

Dude, you are awesome man. I've always had this same theory too. Everyone was always like, you're crazy. But that's is a very good possibility. Because everyone uses different time scales. Not everyone in history used our system. So maybe days were really millions and millions of years. And this time right now, is god's rest.

Yeah, with this you can sort of find balance between God and Science and it does make a bit of sense.

I'm not in full belief that God created it in seven days, but if Christianity is correct, God is one powerful being, so it's possible. Metaphors are used a lot in the Bible, so it may be just another one, like Noah's ark for example. Most of the things stated in the Bible are just stories, but have a great meaning, like a fable almost, and yes metaphors are used in the Bible a lot too which would explain my belief that things that are written in the Bible are partially true, just not all of it. I thought that the end of the generation meant judgment day, or the end of days, but that’s my opinion. I've also heard through out my whole life that God's view of time is WAY shorter than ours, in a way it would be true, because the older you get, the shorter time is, I believe that God has been around a REALLY long time, so time is REALLY fast for him.

According to Judaism, God's "calander," so to speak, is actually diffferent. One of his days, would equal 1,000 of our years. So yeah, it makes sense if you think about it from that perspective.

I think it was like 3 hours. Then he got sick of the smell, grabbed a burger in the future, and then came back to the past 7 days later.

I'm not sure myself, but my Religious education teacher said it was just a metaphor.

No. The 7 days is our perception of 7 days. 24 hours in each day. If there were 1,000 years in each day I don't think that it would have been referred to as a day. Also he created the world in 6 days and on the 7th day he rested. He did this to set up how we should do things. We work for nearly the whole week and then we rest. That's what Saturday is for. But non-religious people don't go to church so they technically get 2 days to rest.

Also I found out that in the 5th grade the world is only about 6,000 years old because of the Bible's timeline. Also there was an ice age. (I didn't know that until this year)

Interestingly, it is. It was originally years or ages.

Anyway, no. The order of things in Genesis makes no sense whatsoever.

First of all, day and night were made before the sun. You need the sun to tell a day.

Secondly, plants are made before the sun. What fed them?

    Plus, it wouldn't add up. 1,000 x 7=7,000. That's not a very long time.

Someone once told me the 7 days came from a Roman Calender in which they created the week or something but i'm not too sure, i'll have to go into greater detail when I remember what I heard.

The one thing people keep forgetting is that the bible was written by people who hadn't even met jesus or anyone near him.God doesn't exist and i won't get into that.People are thinking the bible is literal but i think it is metaphorical.

Well... my Religion teacher always tell me, and the class, that it was 7 days. On the seventh day, God created REST. That's why it's stated on the third commandment that we must keep the Lord's day [Sunday - Seventh day of the week] Holy. Then the other 6 days of the week is spent for Work.

Maybe we have the seven day week BECAUSE the bible said seven days? And I think it is a metaphor, because there are many metaphors in the Bible. That, and, the Bible was written a long time ago, in a language we don't understand. So there are bound to be mis-translations everywhere. People where I live insist that they spoke English. Pft. Morons.

Well, in the event that God dwells in heaven which lies in the sky as the bible says, then he must lie in an alternate dimension taking up the same space as this, parallel to the sky, seeing as we've been all over the sky and never seen a trace of it. We have no idea what the time exchange could be between these dimensions, so while it may have been 7 days in heaven, it was probably not here.

I think if someone created all this, then it probly took longer then seven days.

Now that you mention it, it does seem odd that a being with limitless power and wisdom would need 7 WHOLE days to make it. It would've instantainious (forgive my spelling please).

That's what I was thinking. Like maybe every day is a year. But that makes more sense.

I'm not all that Religious, but I think it's a MAJOR metaphor. But I understand why the bible would say that, instead of saying 'Year 1,000. Light was Made.' That wouldn't be as catchy as the other.
