Not sure if anyone you know but in the GBA original you are able to play with a friend in Chain of Memories. You unlock it after finishing Sora's story and I am not sure if you are able to play as Riku in it as soon as you finish his story too but all I know is you get to play as Sora and your friend is Sora also and you two fight each other with the cards you have in the Deck you are currently using in the game. I have never tried it but I always wanted to try playing with a friend.
I hated the PS2 remake because they left it out sense the PS2 has 2 slots to play with a friend. "The remake stays true to the original" yeah right. A ad for 358/2 Days said it is the first KH game to play with a friend THAT is a damm lie also.
Anyway, has anyone played VS mode in the GBA original? Would you like to try it once or wish it was in the PS2 remake also?

They probably left out the VS mode because of a few of the cards in the game. It's true when they say it sticks to the original, they kept all the original cards (and added some) and kept their same abilities. There's one heartless card that makes you appear invisible to your enemies as well as the "Ansem" card that you can unlock in Sora's mode that hides your stock cards from your opponent. These two cards were really useful in the GBA version in VS mode, especially if you want to land cheap attacks on your opponent. Using this just wouldn't work on the PS2 because you share the same screen. The cards appear in the PS2 version, which makes it useful for fighting enemies, but without two separate screens, it would just add problems to VS mode.

Days wasn't promoted the first KH game to play with a friend. It was promoted as the first KH game to play with friends (as in more than one friend). Anyway, yeah, I do remember the VS mode, but never tried it since I didn't know anyone else who had the game.

that was the main problem with the original game, it wasn't put into wide circulation and so it was very unlikely that friends each had a copy cos you'd have to spend more time looking for a copy than most people who aren't die hard fans would give

Are you sure about that? I just thought it was because Kingdom Hearts wasn't a popular series to begin with. Not a lot of American audiences knew what Square-Enix or what Final Fantasy was. Also, console games still ruled the market at that time. I remember seeing the commercial for the GBA game almost every day for a while. The PS2 version, on the other hand, had terrible marketing. I remember reading the announcement here on KHV that they were going to bring the PS2 version to English speaking audiences a week from that day. I didn't see any commercials for it, and they didn't even try to hype it up one bit.
