My sister came to me yesterday and said that she thought she had gotten a virus. She was getting all of these notifications that say things like "Your computer is infected with spyware, click here to fix it". (not directly that, but it was along those lines). Also, when she tried to get on to sites like Youtube or Ask.com, the browser would display a message that said something like "Your security preferences have restricted this site, blah blah blah, you have malware." We knew not to click those, and I downloaded AVG and Spybot Search & Destroy to try to get rid of them. AVG scanned and found nothing, but Spybot found quite a few things and got rid of them. The notifications have stopped popping up, which is nice, but she's still getting that 'Restricted Site' message. Nothing else seems to be wrong with the computer, but I'd really like to get rid of those. :/ I can screencap them if it'd help, but does anyone know how I can get rid of them? I don't mind having to download programs or anything.

boot and nuke strategy. Put the anti-viruses on a usb and put the computer in safe mode. then activate the anti-viruses. do that or a sytem restore

Go to Tools>Options and then go to the security tab and then go to exceptions and put in the name of the website that you want to go to. That should work.

This virus...did it come up as 'scanning', scan at super fast speed (like not possible speed), say it found a huge number of problems, and that you should download 'this' software?

Okay... I don't see anything obvious.

    Download this: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

    1. Restart your computer in safe mode (since you have vista, hold f8 while your computer is booting up, before the windows logo appears)
    2. Run malwarebytes and see if it picks it up, which it should.

Only thing I'll say though... I wouldn't run multiple toolbars like AOL and Ask, it's known to cause problems.

Anyways if it doesn't work let me know.
