Sorry if this has been asked a billion times before, but is there a way to use .avi files in Vegas, without the sound being removed? I would appreciate not converting it. RSVP, and thanks.
Sorry, I don't think there's a way, for some reason, Vegas can't handle .avi's. You may want to find a program that can convert with constant quality, that way you don't end up getting bad quality videos when you convert and the files should stay the same size. I know that the newest version of Handbrake can do this with files now (as opposed to DVD's only).
Vegas can handle some AVIs, but with others, it removes the video and leaves the sound (which of course, in video editing, is prettymuch useless). I think this is due to a plugin problem. For example, when I record videos with my digital camera, they come out as .AVI files and still work fine in Vegas; however when I use clips from, say, Blue Laguna, it removes the video. In any case, Peppy, I'm not sure how to help. There might be a Vegas plugin available on Sony's website that fixes the problem (I've never checked). May I ask which version of Vegas you're using? I'm not sure but I think this problem is fixed in Vegas 8 onwards. Wouldn't know for certain though because I'm using 7. By the way, Vegas also hates .mp4s (or at least mine does), so be wary of those too. It doesn't remove the footage but it screws it up quite a bit.
Yes, im finding this an issue also, Im using 7. I cant find anyway to fix it. I may as well try and convert it but there is nothing on the sony site, i have already looked, unless i go check again.
