I was going to request a username change today to Hero and possibly even make it my new default username depending on if I felt it fit me since it's a pretty neutral username (Dragon Quest VIII isn't only game with a silent protagonist in it) because I could literally use it with any avatar (e.g., I could have an avatar of Toan from Dark Cloud -- which I did my own fad of before and had the username Toan -- and not even be named Toan) like I can with Amaury, but sadly, this meanie has already taken it: http://kh-vids.net/members/hero.3480/ :( When it comes to default usernames, I don't want to use any special gimmicks in the letters or just in general. I'd rather not use H e r o, for example.

You know, it's kind of mean to just sign up and take a name someone may want (e.g., Sora) and then never be active again. At least be regularly active or somewhat active or become an established user. For example, if Misty were to leave staff today and never be active again, then it wouldn't really be a big deal that the username Misty is already taken because she's a pretty well-established user.

This isn't with all usernames, mind you. For example, Amaury is a pretty uncommon username, though I was still somewhat active before June 5, just not every day (I went for months without logging on, but not once did my inactivity last for a year or more), but if it's something like Sora, then at least be active or establish yourself so if you ever leave, it's not as big a deal that your username's already taken and it doesn't seem like you just signed up for the username.

Long story short, if you're going to sign up with popular usernames (e.g., Donald), then be active or establish yourself.

Just my little rant for the day.

To be fair, "Hero" isn't a popular username, you just want it is all. You could desire the UN "Mamalikesitrough" and if it was taken you'd still have a moan.

The actual crime here isn't anything Amaury said- it's making an uncreative handle like "Hero," "Sora," "Donald," or "Below"

It's a low cost for the penalty of un-creativity.

    hey.

    fuck you.

below61 is arguably the most innovative and artistic username to grace this creative black hole of a forum.

Fair point there, so I'm gonna let this slide.

But for names like Donald or Ash, both of which are popular names, my point still stands.[DOUBLEPOST=1410116520][/DOUBLEPOST]
Because I forgot to quote you, too.

But names don't have to be creative. :3

I don't think a lot of people do it to be malicious. I think it's more a matter of 'oh hey, this looks like a great site' and then after they register they forget about it. But the name is still theirs on the offchance they do come back.

That being said, my username is the most creative ever. In that it is mine and none of you losers can have it.

    My names are super creative.

I was once the shadow of a game character, and now my creativity got so good that I am now assumed to be a map.

So someone signs up for a website and picks a username they would like/would remember, then they become inactive for whatever reason (a reason that you do not know of) and it is "morally wrong" because they picked a name that you/someone else might want.

    What the actual fuck?

    Within reason, obviously.

There are a lot of accounts here with November 18, 2007 as a registration date, for example, and the accounts' last activity is the same day they registered. This is why websites like Wikipedia, vBulletin.com, and vBulletin.org allow userpations. In Wikipedia's case, the username you want to userp must not have a substantial amount of edits.

On all those websites, Amaury was somehow already taken (it can happen) and in November 2012, I requested a userpation of Amaury on Wikipedia and received the name. Then last year on vBulletin.com and vBulletin.org, the users that had Amaury hadn't been on since 2010 and 2008, respectively, if I recall correctly, and so my requests were accepted.
