You already know this has my full support. I don't know if an argument has to be made here, but I will fight for this if I have to.

If I understand this correctly, it is essentially User Notes and Profile Conversations Plus.
Apparently you may have separate tabs set to certain permissions so certain members/user groups will be visible in those tabs? It would organize things, certainly. I may be misunderstanding, however.

I'd love to see user notes come back. Can we please make this happen?

    This.

I really do miss the things, and it's nice to go back and relive the noobiness sometimes.

Don't see why not other than it kinda cluttering up the profile space. I honestly would like it best if it fused into VMs but I don't know of a way to make that work.

What causes the importer on this add-on fail if I may ask?

We've already imported the vBulletin database; you can't go back & add more.

I just went through the XenForo help page for importing and there doesn't seem to be anything about not being able to re-import. Or does this not apply for the importer used for vBulletin 4.x?

Hmm, well the thing is importing a database is like loading a save file that's not at the same point you are in a game. And it would take the amount of time it took to import it last time.

But I guess an Admin could explain it better. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I took from it.

Did you read the help page? It says you can add only specific parts of the forum, and the add-on in the OP has its own specific importer as well. It says it should only need to upload the things you check off as imports. And because User Notes are already out of commission, it shouldn't try to duplicate anything already here.

    No, I actually didn't? Okay let's see...

What I got from it was the following: You can import things in separate and are able to re-import things. So that covers the aspect of being able to import the usernotes.

But I thought people wanted to recover their OLD usernotes? That's why I mentioned what I did. I'm not sure that's...possible. We have to wait for an admin to shed some light on the aspect.

There shouldn't be any problem with importing the old User Notes. Unless Misty deleted that part of the backup, she should be able to import specific parts of the OLD forum as many times as she wants, according to this help page.

It's been said before, but the add-on itself has an importer specifically for old User Notes. Maybe you should look into that as well?

I don't believe it's possible. The vBulletin database has already been imported; there's no going back to that and redoing certain steps. We could reimport the database but that would take about three days and erase everything we've posted since on Xenforo. There's no way to merge two databases like that.

    When you import a database...

Steps cannot be run until you've completed the ones before them. Pretty sure that's the case with this mod. And whether it supports the vBulletin 4 importer altogether is a totally different story.

Well, it's free. And a failed import isn't that likely to damage the forum since Usernotes are disabled anyways.

Worst case scenario, you install the add-on and the built-in importer doesn't work.

As I understand it, the built-in importer is separate from the main importer.

If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, but you won't know until you try.

It's not separate from the main importer and while damage to the database isn't irreversible (because we have backups), the forum is so big that it could take several days to restore. It is not possible to import old usernotes.

From what I can tell, it's not just a case of 'if it doesn't work, oh well'. It's a case of shutting down the forum yet again and losing everything we've gained since the move - posts, threads and so on.

As much as I would like to see my ye olde usernotes of yore.

Well, installing the add-on will allow for new user notes. so if we can't import, we can still have the feature.
