Just recently I have been having some problems with my USB ports in the back of my Computer. They don't work. Period. The only way to get them to work is to run this program called Microsoft Fixit every time I turn on my computer.

I think i may know the cause.

I recently installed some drivers to my computer to be able to use my PS3 controller as a gamepad. I think it was Xpadder or something like that.

My question is: Does anybody know how I can get the USB ports on the back of my computer to work again?

I think the easiest option would just be to do a System Restore, if you have a recent restore point that is from before you installed Xpadder.
Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore
(On Windows 7, not certain what it is on Vista & XP but it should be similar)

Thank you, Misty, but after some more tinkering I got it figured out.

All I had to do was uninstall the drivers and let Windows re-install it. Go figure.

Thank you, for the help you did give, though!

What happens when you plug something in? Do you get "USB not recognized" or is it just nothing happens?

-Edit- Oh nvm, seems like you figured it out.

Okay, apparently the fix I found wasn't permanent, as it only lasted until I turned off my computer. When I turned it back on the next day the USB ports were not working.

When I use the USB ports on the back, nothing happens. At all.

Go to device manager (right click my computer) and see if there are any yellow triangles with an ! in it. If so, update that driver. (It's not necessarily that triangle, and you should probably try to update the USB drivers anyway) If it doesn't work, the USB might be worn out. I know two of my laptop's USB ports don't work properly, but it's simply because they are worn out.

I tried that ( Most of the USB drivers shown had the yellow triangle the the "!" in it), but when I tried to update, it said I already had the latest driver software and that there was no need to update.

I doubt that they're worn out, since I've barely had this computer a year and I don't use the bad USB ports very often.

Try a rollback of the drivers then, that might work.

    The rollback option isn't selectable.

I have a warranty on my computer, I guess I'll have to send it back to the manufacturer to have this fixed.
