Unreal Engine Licensed by Square-Enix

Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 has recently been licensed by Square Enix. Taku Murata, the General Manager of Research and Development for Square Enix, released the following statement on this license acquisition:

Taku Murata said:

The complexity of next-generation game systems featuring HD graphics and multi-core parallel processing poses a number of technological challenges to our game development. However, we can expedite our game development process significantly while allowing extra time and resources to be spent on game design and mechanics by establishing an effective technology platform. The technology platform for game development is becoming more important than ever. I'm excited to be partnering with Epic Games in such an important area.

Epic Games' Vice President, Jay Wilbur, stated:

So it'll be for the next-gen? KH3? DANGIT! I have a PS2! I AM NOT BUYING A PS3 JUST FOR KH3!

Still...it's probably gonna be $400! And I have a Wii so my parents will be all weird and say I can't get a PS3.

Hope they are going to use it on upcoming games it is defintely going to be good, too bad Final Fantasy XIII is still using white engine wish they could use on it >.<

Unreal Engine 3 is the new game engine that was developed by epic games for use in all their upcoming games. It made its debut in Gears of war, and will be in Unreal Tournament 2007 also.

And as for my response to the story, That is freakin awesome, Gears of War was one of the best games I played last year (and well, this year too, so far), so Square just pulled a genius move licensing this.
