Can you all help me out?
I know there are some very bright people that frequent this place so I was hoping someone would be well versed in this imperialism topic.

I know basic stuff, but what are your views on it?
I'm basing my paper on the fact that the United States exploited the Latin American countries economically and in the process it stripped the locals socially. Something like that...

Anyway, does anyone have any info on the subject?! Any info is greatly appreciated.
    Roosevelts policy, Taft's policy...ummm 1890-1914
    Thanks!

Well Roosevelt started the exploitation when he added his Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, which let him go into economically unstable countries in the western hemisphere and try to fix them. Now that wasnt so bad untill he left office and in came Taft who did the real exploitation of it. In 1909 he tried to control the Honduras by buying up all its debts to the British. Then he went into Nicaragua and sided with the people who were starting a revolt down there, which was all started by the U.S. who instigated them because it was favorable for their mining interests. So Taft used that as an excuse to go down there and start seizing control over parts of the country. Then his sec. of state, Knox, urged on U.S. bankers to go down there and hand out loans so that they can have more financial superiority to them. That basically went on till another revolt against the corrupt U.S. regime cause more forces to head down there and stay there over 10 years.

So as you can see, Taft's seemingly innocent 'Dollar diplomacy' to help under-developed nations was really used to gain leverage over smaller nations. Shame on him and his crappy foreign policy :P . As far Roosevelt though, he really helped out other nations. But all the work he did opening foreign relations with other countries was easily abused by Taft and Knox.

I hope that helps you a little. HoA is always a drag lol.

You can also investigate the farmers and how produce from the U.S. tends to be cheaper to acquire than in Latin America which has caused problems down there with the farmers being able to support themselves well. So farmers up here do in a way exploit the system too. Also, big produce lands owned by farming corporations tend to hire illegal immigrants to do things and some of the sales from their work goes south to be sold.

    Good luck!
