I'll try to make this as clear as I can, since I haven o idea what's going on right now. Basically, on my laptop, a new google chrome window is popping up on its own every now and then without me doing anything. I could have nothing open on my computer at all and all of a sudden Google Chrome will open a window by itself. I don't know why this is happening, and it's never happened before, but it started yesterday after I got home from work around 3pm. I didn't download anything yesterday, and it wasn't happening in the morning, only after I got home. I haven't changed anything on google chrome, and I haven't installed anything new either. A few days ago I got a Turtle Beach PX5 headset from my brother, but I never had this issue when I first plugged it in. I did a system restore last night to make sure, but it's still doing the same thing on its own. Anyone know what's going on with my computer? I swear, if I somehow got a virus, I'm going to get seriously pissed.
I did what you said, and it said it found stuff....a bunch of stuff, of which I have no idea from where they were, but can I trust that program? And if I still end up with the same problem, is there anything else I can do?
Yes, you can definitely trust Malware Bytes. If cleaning up with malware bytes doesn't do the trick then I'm not sure, I've never heard of chrome doing that. Maybe run CCleaner too.
I'll have to run the CCleaner to see if that helps, because I'm still having the problem. I worry I'm going to have to do a complete reboot of my computer. I just really don't want it to come to that because there's a lot of things on here I either can't lose, or it'll take too long to get back on here. Still, better then dealing with chrome always popping up. I'm going to see if I can't get on the helpline first, and see if they can't help me. I'll also try uninstalling google chrome and re-installing it too. There's no way it'll happen if it's off my computer, but if it happens after re-installing, it'll have to be something that got put on google recently on my computer
It may be an extension that you have installed to chrome. I think some of them may update automatically. Check those as well.
If MalwareBytes didn't take care of it then malicious software probably isn't causing the problem. (Although, it could possibly be a FUD encrypted remote access tool, and someone is messing with you by opening chrome up all the time, but that is SUPER unlikely so don't get worried). I would try and remove all traces of Google Chrome from your computer and then reinstall it. If it's still happening then I have no idea.
I just did that. My dad also said he had the same sort of issue with another browser, and he had to update windows, which I did, just to be sure (only optional updates, but we'll see.) I uninstalled it and just put it back on, so if it keeps happening, it's got to be from Chrome, because I didn't have it happen for more then an hour when I took it off Edit: I just experienced it again, so it's something to do with Chrome itself. I checked last night for any answers to this online, but couldn't find any, so I'm going to have to call google
Have you checked your extensions like Spunk mentioned? I use Mozilla Firefox as my main browser, but I use Google Chrome to visit porn sites (yeah, sue me, LOL), and on the first visit (since I always clear the browser data when exiting Google Chrome), and I deal with a similar issue that ONLY happens when visiting porn sites -- it doesn't happen on any other site -- in which a new tab automatically opens on me when I click on something, such as the search bar, that's also porn-related, which makes sense, but I just ignore it and close it. However, the browser itself has never just randomly opened on me. When Google Chrome automatically opens on you, does it open any specific website or what?
This isn't opening a new tab by clicking on a link, picture, or anything of the kind. It's Chrome opening a new window all by itself on its own. You know when you hit Ctrl+N to open a new window? That's happening by itself. And it's something on Chrome, and I'm not the only one having the issue. I posted a help forum on Google, and someone's even replied they started having the same problem recently too.
No, it's just a new window. If I have nothing up it's google, but every time after that it's just the new tab page, except a new window.
