So apparently they're building an underwater tunnel in Turkey to connect Europe and Asia, and the trip across would only be about four minutes. It 8 miles long and is 60 meters below water. Even though in it's close to a fault line it was described as the safest structure in Istanbul. They reinforced it with seismic bars to ensure safety in an earthquake. One thing you forgot to mention is that this is a railway. I was wondering how it would only take 4 minutes to cross 8 miles when you'd need a car going at a constant 120 miles per hour which isn't exactly the smartest idea. With trains however, that's no problem. This is kind of interesting.
I wonder if they'll be setting up precautions just in case something were to happen to the tunnel, like emergency pods or something. It does seem like a pretty cool idea. I think it'd be really cool to make tunnels connecting America to some of the other countries ... so I don't have to take those bloody planes. I'll check back later to see how things turn out for the underwater tunnel.
