    Which do you guys prefer?

I personally like both, but have had better, more consistently fun experiences with Action RPGs.

Before playing Persona I thought that I didn't like turn-based gameplay, but I guess I just don't like Final Fantasy. It doesn't really matter to me as long as I feel engaged. I love the action in KH, but games like Persona and Pokemon feel just as fast-paced because of how fun the gameplay is. So I guess my answer is... both as long as they're fun. I don't have a preference.

Both have their strengths. I really don't think you could take certain "action rpg games" and make them turn based and have it work, while at the same time there is a greater chance to make turn based rpgs into action rpgs, but it would still be an awkward transition.

All of that aside, I am thankful that we have both in the world of gaming. It is a nice mix, in my opinion.

    I prefer both as well.

Like Luxord, I feel if Kingdom Hearts tried to be a turn-based RPG or if Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King tried to be an action-based RPG, it would just be weird.

Like others said, I don't really have a preference. Both are good in their own ways, and both do have their limitations as well.

Action RPG. I absolutely cannot get into turn base games besides Pokemon. It's just... so slow and doesn't really suck me in at all. It's sucks because the story in FF games look so interesting but the turn base stops me. I so happy that FF15 is what it is. Hopefully FF games stay like that now. Turn Base just feels old and obsolete IMO.

Turn-based always makes me want to do number crunching especially when level ups give some amount of customization when it comes to stat growth. I guess since it's easier to make a turn-based game there's usually more leftover for a story and other things besides combat. Bravely Default is a very obvious example of one of the more recent great turn-based games. You could even influence the flow of combat! Want to have four turns in a row? Stock up on turns by defending or just use four turns up now and put yourself in "turn debt". Not many turn-based games give you that kind of flexibility.

Still, some of the best RPGs out there are ARPGs. One of the earliest being Secret of Mana. So many feels. So many. My personal favorite "recent" ARPGs had combat that put many others to shame(looking at you Skyrim). Dragon's Dogma. Climbing on big monsters instead of hacking away at their ankles? Yes. Chopping heads off a hydra? Yes. Climbing on a flying dragon to bring it crashing down? YES. ARPGs just put you so much closer to the action. It just feels more...real being a part of it than by taking turns. Especially when turn-based gets ridiculous and a boss throws a world-ending nuke at the party only to be dodged by the generic "step back" dodge animation. Pfft. That's amusing but it breaks immersion. Plus, how many bad guys out there would willingly take turns smacking the hero? Yeah, that's a silly question but I feel it's worth asking.

Anyways, ARPGs win for me. Hands down. ...I refuse to play Pokemon ever again until Gamefreak fixes the core gameplay.
I need to steal other people's Pokemon. Stop giving me the whole "trainer blocked your Pokeball" bull, dammit.

Oh, definitely. It's one of the reasons I did my Dragon Quest VIII project and am doing my Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits project (see my signature).

I must say I do prefer Action RPGs. I've played a few turn-based ones, and I like that they more or less require some strategy and provide a bit of a challenge. Action based RPGs are exactly that-action. I find them to be more fast-paced and active, and just fun in general.

However, I don't think a game like Pokemon would work as an action RPG. I really like the gameplay, and the strategy that comes with planning your attacks.

Also, what I usually find is that attack planning kinda goes out the window with Action RPGs. Idk, I always found that you could find your enemy's weaknesses and plan your attacks better in turn based RPGs. It allows for you to experiment more with different attacks. Usually when I play say, Kingdom Hearts, I just start bashing at the enemy and hope they eventually die :P

In terms of how you play the game, I generally find Action RPGs more fun, so there we go :)
