Kingdom Hearts 1 was released in 2002 and Kingdom Hearts 2 came out in 2005 in Japan and 2006 in the rest of the world.
There is a 3 years and a GBA game difference between them.
To think of this mathematically, KH3 should be released 3 years after KH2, in 2009.
But there are many factors that make that time value bigger. Like the other projects that they have been working on, which are not in the same level of CoM of course. There have been 5 new games since KH2 released. If for every two major games whihch take 3 years to complete there is one smaller game that takes a small part of that time to start and finish, for 5 games that time would grow dramatically. If let's say there were no in-between projects the KH staff would work on right after KH2 and concentrated in KH3, how long would it take them to finish?Let's say for example... 4 years (KH3 will not be in the same level as KH2). If each game takes up about 1/3 of those 4 years, there will be about... 4 more years in the best case, since there are many variables I am sure I am not taking into account. So to sum up the time... 7 years since 2005-2006... KH 3 will be released in 2012, 2013?

Anyways, that was just something I wanted to add so I could also sort it out on my mind too.

The real subject of this thread is that, there must be a reason for all these spin-offs. What are the possible reasons? That Nomura wants to make sure all details are cleared before moving on... which means that there's a big plan for KH3, and making 5 new video games before continuing Kingdom Heart's story where he had left it in KH2 is a big deal. Which also implies that KH3 will be worth the wait.
Or, when KH2 was finished, he just had no idea how to continue it and make it a big hit, so he makes new games, with each one in its own way creating a part of a bigger new story that has little to do with KH2, and then with the ideas that drop whilst those games are still in progress they will make Kingdom Hearts 3 which will basically be a continuation of the story formed by the previous smaller games.

    A combo of these.

They're all going to tie in to KH3. Each spinoff is a piece to the puzzle that is KH3.
Of course, he realized he could make some cash from it though.
I'm inclined to think that he would still have made the final mixes, bbs, maybe ReCom, and Days, if it wasn't such a big hit but still popular, but the fact that it is so big made him do more (remakes, final mixes, mary sue like organization characters)

Another thing I thought of is that he has too much on his plate. He can't work on all the new FF games and whatever else he's working on and still make a decent KH3, which he knows is what we want so he makes slightly-less important games to fill up some plotholes while keeping us occupied so we don't forget about KH3 before it comes out.

Well... I've learned to to trust people who make video games for sequels. So... I think that the real reason for so many spin-offs is because KH is their best bet for making money, and they just keep making them because they make a profit out of it.

i think nomura is having fun right now because he knows how much KH3 is goni sell so he makes the spinoffs to mess wit ppl but at the same time educate us so when he finally releases kh3 is goin b the best of the whole series

    Hmmm

This is what I think: BBS and Re:coded were made to fill some holes and prepare us for KH3. 358/2 Days was made for fans of Roxas and Org. XIII. About 3D, well, it was never suppose to exist.

    That's it.

Well this is interesting. Nomura still hasn't even confirmed the existence of a KH3 though we're all still expecting it. BbS and Coded are being made to fill in gaps as was Days. Spinoffs are being made to make money or in the case of Re:Coded, to give the rest of the fans outside of Japan the chance to play it. KH3 should theoretically be released around 2012 or 2013 but with KH 3D coming as well I wouldn't be so surprised to see a possible release date for it get pushed all the way back to 2014.
