Not even in the last week, I've been PM'd three times by people advertising. This is the latest.

People have done this sort of thing before, but never this frequent. This is just annoying.

I can understand your frustration. Members have done this to me, to. But, I doubt there is anything the staff can do about it. =/

The staff could probably warn the member.

For what? Advertising? It's ok to advertise in PM's just not on the forum anywhere. There is nothing wrong with trying to get people to join anything. I see no problem here. I just delete the PM, how hard is that?

Exactly. I got that one, too...

I was thinking about saying something, but then I thought "What's the point? It's not against the rules, and I could just ignore it."

Yeah, I get what you guys are saying. But the thing is, it's been for the exact same forum. every time. In under a week. if it were for three different forums, I'd understand. But for the same one? It can't be a coincidence.

(Yawn.) Yeah...Do we have an advertising thread or something? Where everyone can just...Ad spam away? >> So the people who dont care wont have to be bothered about it.

Like, I said, ignore it or just delete the thread. Simple as that. Why be worrie? they want members and they want them desperately. So I see no harm in it.

That actually sounds like a good idea, but everyone already advertises in their sigs.

Look, just forget it. I'm just annoyed that these people are targeting me. But I tell ya, once more and I might just lose it. If you start seeing some poor user complaining about how mean another user was to them, you know what happened.

C'mon..LOL...have a little fun with them. Say you will and then don't. That will get you more fun out of it and nobody will get hurt. =]

Anger isn't neccessary. LOL. I can understand your fury, though.

Well, what if they say something like they'd look out for me? or that they'd be my "First buddy" when I join? I rather make it bluntly clear that I'm not interested than get their hopes up.

LOL. Yeah, true. You're right. It's better to put a stop to these things quickly then 'drag' them along. =]

Advertising through PM's is perfectly fine, feel free to put a member on ignore if it becomes frequent.

I saw another mod (I'm not sure which one) say that if a PM is either spammy, or advertisement, and it continued unsolicited, it could be warned/banned as harrasment.

I am not going to name the mod, as I can't really remember which one it was. If it's persistant, could the above be done? Or is it just, "Ignore him, Nuff said!"

From what I know, and I have been staff (collectively) for a long time, It's always been "no Advertisement in posts, PM's or put it in your signature" the only cause for a warning brought on by a PM, is if it is insulting to a member I.e bullying.

I remember it was a chain letter type deal going around. I can't remember which mod adressed it, but it was called harrasment. Warnings and bannings were threatened... I don't know if it was actually carried out.

I can't remember who it was who threatened the warnings, lets see if I can dig it up...

    *goes and looks*

Edit: Ok... it was Sara who handled it, and it had to do exclusivly with chain letters via PM...

    And warnings were threatened.

I do think if it's a frequent problem you could PM an admin or mod about it and something may be done. As frustrating as it is, that's the best thing to do if it becomes something like the 3 times with the same message because voicing it here, nothing may be done.

So anyways I sent the guy a warning. If I get bothered with this crud again, I'll report him and his friend under harassment.
