This is a bit silly, but I'm kinda freaking out...

Does anyone know how common auditory hallucinations are, and if I should be worried?

I've had a few separate cases of it earlier, but it's been at least a year since the last one, but for some reason I've been hearing things all evening I know I shouldn't be hearing, like adults chattering in a low voice (I can't distinguish any words, and even the voices are kinda meshed together) when I know there's only small children in the house (and that happened in a place where you definitely can't hear the neighbors), a weird music box lullaby with a melody I've never heard before, and some kinda noise I'm not even sure how to describe (something between a siren and a wail, and no, it wasn't a kid crying), coming practically inside a wall...

Am I being paranoid, or do I need serious psychiatric help?

I don't think you should be worried. The hallucinations haven't told you to do anything bad so it's not something to worry about. You know that these things you're hearing aren't real so that's a good sign. You also may have heightened hearing. I wouldn't worry too much about it myself but if you're really concerned you could always talk to someone about it.

I used to have that happen to me sometimes. I'd hear voices constantly saying my name, over and over. It eventually just stopped. I don't think you need to be worried about it.

A banshee? Had any recent deaths in your household, TO9o?

But I wouldn't worry, there are far more distressful hallucinations to be had, yours seem relatively minor in comparison to some others I have heard of. When the voice inside of your head orders you to kill the next-door-neighbor's wiener dog, then you should consider resigning yourself to a mental ward.

I've had that happen to me a few times, at least, hearing adult voices speaking in a hushed tone somewhere in my house. It usually happens at night when no one else is around/awake to be talking. I usually just pin it down to me thinking too much, and things like that; I am usually worrying about something when it happens. So that might be your case when that happens. Just too much thinking when there's (I would assume) probably not much else to do but think about things. For now, I'd say you're fine, but if it continues for a while longer, or gets more severe, I'd definately say talk to someone about it.

I know that it looks like I am doing my usual jump to the paranormal explanation, but is it possible to research the property and the land its on?

I would see how it progresses before you seek a doctor, all too often people are labelled as crazy in society now. It could just be a one off thing brought on by tiredness etc or your imagination.

I wouldn't worry too much about this at the moment but if they persist I would go talk to someone. At the moment they aren't too serious so you're alright, but if they start getting worse then I would do something.

There are definitely worse cases than you but still, if this has been going on a while then I would just be a bit cautious. The good news is you know what you're hearing isn't real which shows you still have your conscious mind and you are still firmly in control.

However, they can be just signs of stress or worry, is there anything at the moment that is particularly scaring you? I do get them sometimes, but I don't really hear anything in particular I just get noise- it's hard to describe.

The noises you are hearing are common place noises, well the lullaby- was it a soothing noise or not? The siren could be your subconscious mind just associating a siren with worry while the adults chatter could be anything really. It cold have something to do with anything that's upsetting you or I could be completely wrong and it may just be random noises, I'm no expert.
