So, you know how everyone says "That's so gay?" well, some people decided to go and take action on it. And you must of seen the commericals on TV by now, If not, they are on the site.

I think this is a really good idea. I mean I really dont like when people use that phrase for no reason at all, it annoys the hell out of me.

No, I ment to post it before...but didnt know where, so I just did here.

Anyway, It's still wrong to say it, It hurts people's feelings even though it might not show. So you should consider it before you talk.

When saying "that's so gay" it isn't ment to hurt, but is just something that some people say. I've never said it before, but I know many people who do on a daily basis. It's been around for awhile, so I wouldn't expect a commercial to actually stop it from being said =/

If there was something else to say besides "gay" in that context, then it would be used. However, some things aren't dumb, they aren't silly, they don't suck, they're just fucking gay. I am not psychoanalyzing the situation and thinking "Hmm, there is quite an aura of mansex going on here" as my reasoning for calling it gay, it has nothing to do with homosexuality, I'm going to call it gay simply because it's gay.

tl;dr, the word gay is serving a purpose independent of homosexuality, and you're never going to prevent people from using the language how they want, languages evolve and this is part of the process.

    It's explained here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-otAJrtY-w

Thank you! Quoted for truth and win. If there were other alternatives that didn't make me sound like a middle-schooler, I would use them.

    He's right.

Some people are just way too sensitive.

TMM has an excellent point. Kind of like how the word ****** used to be used as an insult and as an everyday term to describe black people. And although it can still be used in the context of an insult, now some blacks call each other ****** and even white people. Language just evolves, and you can't do much about it.

VERY good point. Political Correctness is going to kill all creative thought in America.

    TMM is completely right

and also, how many words have two different meanings? or even more than 2?

On a sort of related but unrelated note: My friend made a point, when you call someone gay you're actually complimenting them.
Because you wouldn't call a homesexual gay if you're tryin to insult him, you're pretty much saying you know (s)he is gay so that's not an insult, it's a fact.
So you would only use the insult gay on someone you know is straight, so you're actually saying "hey, you're straight and it shows"
    lol

Well, way back in the day (Victorian Era), it really WAS an insult to be called "gay", "bugger" (both to be gay, and to engage in gay secks), etc etc (thereby changing the meaning of his words every time Jack Sparrow says "bugger" in the Pirates series), despite the fact that a great many of the rich and powerful were, in fact, if not totally homosexual, at least bi. Now, the language has changed from "gay" meaning "homo" to "gay" meaning "stupid". I guess that's just the evolution of language.

Sorry for the repeated comments. I keep coming up with new and interesting tidbits, but they always come to me days apart.
