~THEORY V~(Some facts may be incorrect)
    Tainted Souls

We all know that when Hearts are exposed to darkness, eventually the person will become a Heartless. Well, what about Souls? I do not think Ansem stated anywhere that "Souls could not be tainted". The basis of my theory is that, when souls are exposed to too much darkness, then the person may become evil, or possibly even a new creature, like the Heartless procedure. This has led me to believe Xehanort has a Tainted Soul.

Xehanort: We know that Ansem finds him, with no memory of his past. Could this be a side-effect of tainted soul? His soul has become so dark, that the darkness has erased his memories, leaving his mind empty for the darkness to take over. I have more proof that he has a tainted soul; the experiments. We all know of those experiments he performed on the hearts of those people. Inhuman ones too. It could be possible that, in his past, his soul slowly became tainted. It probably became even more tainted over the course of staying with Ansem, discovering the Heartless and such. The other apprentices may have either slowly gained tainted souls from staying with Xehanort, or they may have just followed Xehanort everywhere he went.

I can presume that Keyblade wielders' souls can not be tainted. Proof of this is Riku. He had been traveling in darkness for much of his time, yet, he comes back fine.

This has also led me to believe the new "Unbirths" may be beings that have had their souls tainted, and have undergone a transformation.

I would like your opinions on this theory.

First paragrauph is mostly incorrect. If a soul could be tainted, then something would have popped up by now. I do believe that the soul might be an important factor, but I do not believe that it turns people evil. In theory though, I could possibly prophisize that it might have to do with the Ambers.......(the new enemy in birth by sleep), but I only prophosize this, since originally I believed that the soul would probably have something to do with the next enemy

SEcond paragrauph does not hold enough proof either. The only thing it proves is that he did experiments. He was just as interested in the heart as Ansem had been. From what I have scene from cutscenes, the real xehonort had an interest in the heart, and so there for, however xemnas (this is how I shall refer to him, since I need to refer to the real xehonort as xehonort) had some sort of a connection with him, and there for, he most likely had the same obsession with the heart as xehonort had.

But before Riku even went into darkness in the first place, he had been tainted by ansem (I shall refer to xehonorts heartless as ansem as well), since his body was consumed by the darkness. Not only that, but if you were paying attention, then you would realize that it does not matter how much he stays in darkness. Darkness is not evil. It was what lurks in the darkness which is the true evil......

Please explain the "Unbirths" to me. Is this a new enemy as well? (The faq I read said they fight ambers, so that is the only enemy that I know of at the moment)

And also, to counter your theory, you should really take a look at Terra and the cutscenes video. Xehonort obviously mentions that he has darkness within him. He tells Terra of how those who have given into the darkness do not deserve the right to use the keyblade, which leads me to realize that Terra obviously has some sort of power over darkness, because he himself uses the darkness.

How do you know the soul can not turn people evil? A soul is the spirit of said person, and if the soul is exposed to darkness, which we know is obviously "bad", wont it turn evil itself? Xehanort could have easily tried more human experiments on the heart. Doesn't it make him a "bad" person when he would do those horrid experiments? The Unbirths are the new BBS enemy. Was it ever confirmed that MX was the Xehanort we know in the first place? He may have power over the darkness, but being controlled by it is a completely different thing. Again, that supports my "Keyblade wielders can not have tainted souls" theory. He has power over darkness, but the darkness does not have power over him.

Riku's situation was unique in that he never fell totally to Darkness but was sent there in spirit and endured. He was tainted by Darkness but because his intentions were to help his friends or do some adventure, they weren't malicious ones and when he actually saw his friends in peril etc, he stepped up. Xehanort's Heartless had to fight his spirit and put it in Darkness but Riku still had ties to his body and had a very strong will. This is why he has no Heartless or Nobody.

I don't know if it would be accurate then to use him as an example because since he felt he was originally trying to save Kairi's life, and he was also duped initially to opening the door on DI...his intentions were never in themselves evil. How things turned out though and how he got more emotional and stressed with Darkness inside him was where he was going corrupted.

The Unbirths or Ambers...whichever is the actual species name versus a type name... may very well be connected to souls, which has been a theory for some time now since hearts and bodies were covered. How they operate may be by devouring and corrupting souls from people or it may be they just steal the souls and those souls become Unbirths/Ambers. Your theory is interesting but not sure how well it holds up at this time. With more information from the game I'm sure we'll see more to go off of. Souls probably could be tainted since well there are some rotten people out there and it's not just because they are emotional in the game. Ansem the Wise though didn't appear to be working on souls. He just wanted to study Hearts as far as can be told at this time.

As for Xehanort/Xemnas having a tainted soul, perhaps. I can't really say anything against it or for it save to say the guy didn't have any memories and at first Ansem obviously thought he was all right to help and take care of, and trust as an apprentice. It is obvious that something bad happened to Xehanort to get him as he was and Xemnas does make the comment all he remembers feeling was rage and negative stuff. It's too hard though to just say it's because of a problem with the soul and not the Heart which I would lean more towards because of Xemnas's words and also Xehanort's actions of exploring the Heart so and there was corruption obviously there found. Good theory though, so we'll just see how it pans out.
