Kingdom Hearts II Theory on How to Reach the AU

Many ideas have been bopping around that the new secret ending takes place in Castle Oblivion, as a Memory of Xehanort reborn by the Castle's memory-showing rooms.

We have also seen a place in the PV that looks exactly like Castle Oblivion (in KHII) called the White Place. This could be linked to CO, and allow us to travel into Xehanort's memories and fight the AU.

Or the AU could be a boss battle at the very end of the game during the cutscene?

 

No, because Sora is not there during the Final Cutscene.

We don't know this for sure, but if it takes place in the past but in the future, it essentially takes place in the past, where Sora does not exist.

 

It most likely does take place in the past. However, for some reason, Nomura said that this could possibly be in the future.

 

I have an explanation!

It takes place in the past, but in the future because the Org. XIII , IN THE FUTURE, is viewing Xehanort's Memory, which occured IN THE PAST.

This explains Nomura's statement that it occurs in the past, but sort of in the future.
