I hate the word REF it makes me feel left out and stuff ppl just stereotype us and assume we're stupid and stuff i came here from Cuba when i was 9 and now im 15 plus i dont look all that Cuban some ppl say i look American so ppl dont call me that but i hate it when ppl say it before school ended a Cuban that was raised here said that some REF did something and he's my friend and all but i nearly beat him up for it idk why we r being hated on i hate all type of racism most ppl say that REFs r Cubans who cant speak english so? we're trying i hate ppl like that they r all stupid what do u think?
Um... Honestly, who cares what you're called? American, Cuban, Italian, Polish, it doesn't matter, because as long as you know who and what you are then you shouldn't need to take offense to pointless crap like that. I'll be honest, I dislike racism. I don't hate people, though. People are people and they do what they want. Btw, I'm 50% Cuban as well. Even though I don't look like it, as well. It doesn't matter to me because I've accepted the fact people will just be ignorant and not care to learn what the truth is, and instead they scratch the very surface and make superficial assumptions based on little or no research. >: It can be changed, though. <: What's a REF, anyway? lol
its refugee but what bugs me is that ppl use it in a bad way and REFs r only Cubans so if u r a refugee from anywhere else ur not a REF thanks ur post helped me
Well, you can't exactly stop people from being racist or whatever. I get called a ***** for being Asian, so people just assume I'm Chinese. I'm not really Chinese, of course. But I don't let it bother me since I know those people are just stupid and have nothing better to do than make fun of people.
That is true on the basis that racism exists and it is prone to be there, but it can be changed. Racism is something that is learned, and is not always necessarily true. And to go as far as to say that they are good and bad, I would have to disagree with. Humans are humans. Just another species of organisms that exist. When a baby is born, he or she won't care what other kid he or she can play with in the park as long as it's a person he or she can communicate with. In a lot of ways, when you grow up, society forces you to lose that simplicity and throws "black people" and "white people" and "Asians", etc, at you to divide you up and make you think there's some kind of innate human difference. And until people realize it's not actually real, it will exist no matter what, as you said. But as I said, it can be changed... with time and effort.
Your post makes sense. But, I'm afraid, there will always be racism. As long as human existance is present on Earth, there will always be at least one person with this 'idea' and they will pass it on to their children and so on.
I've never used the term REF to describe a Cuban or anyone for that matter. You can tell people to not use it, but some people are going to keep doing such things. They may not see why it even offends you. I've actually never heard the term until now to describe Cubans and so obviously I still won't bother to use such a thing. You gave me an eye opener that the term exists in such a way, so I thank you. Racism is a petty thing and some people will continue to be afraid or full of hate over things like ethnicity. It's pathetic but more and more people learn to become more understanding as they meet people of other backgrounds and appearances and those people integrate into societies. I do not believe there will always be 'racism' when we are given the chance at integration and people see that a person isn't so bad as a stereotype declares. However, it does take time, unfortunately, if people keep raising children to be biased and also adults harbor these prejudices. More and more people are becoming more tolerant and willing to comprehend others so in time things won't be so bad, I can hope. Because though some people are just not very smart, racism continues to endure because people are afraid or hate the unknown. They don't explore and give up to be short minded. Don't give up on others though who are intelligent and don't care about such things. Many of us are 'half-breeds' or Heinz 57 Varieties anymore or just think racism is lame. Don't get discouraged by the stupid.
It should not matter to you. It may bug you and hurt you, but life's not a fair game, it has nasty rules that people don't like. You should just try to make oyurself stronger and better from people being racist. I know it's not the same but I was fatter than must guys in my class, not the fattest but just overweight, and even though these other guys where fatter than me, I always use to get called names and picked on. I never knew why but it was because I amde myself look like a target, I looked helpless and easy to attack and so that's what they did. I had to ignore their remarks, just let it bounce off of me and forget them. Though i am still slightly overweight for my height, but thankfully don't look it, i was able to get some confidence back and now it doesn't matter that i'm overweight or not, but I just feel good and act nice and people like me for it. People should not care that your origins or family make you different, it is you that should make you different and you should change yourself to make yourself happy and forget these people.
well, some people are just so stuck up just because youre latin, or something else in fact, once in an online community i was asked "did you jump out of the fence" , of course this was a really rude comment mainly because, im not mexican , im american(puertorrican) and for just thinking i was an idiot, i never showed any kind of conduct of idiocity, but just because i was latin, he didnt hesitate to insult me. in fact people seem to think latin's (this includes cubans), are idiots but in fact, we are not. it doesnt matter if you look cuban or not(cubans have specific looks?) they shouldnt say such things.
yeah ur right and me too when i came i was really skinny and my grandpa kept giving me more and more food and i got really fat i lost most of it but im still struggling to get abbs well ppl didnt make fun of me cuz of that but they made fun of my accent a lot we'll we don thave an specific look or anything but ppl say i look American and yeah ppl who say that r idiots i dont know y they think that hispanics r stupid ppl like that disappoint me
Hmm yeah, I've never heard that term before, though. I tell people I'm actually Cuban all the time and not ever have I been called a ref. Maybe once or twice, but I don't remember.
umm, yeah, most cubans ive seen are really white and coffee colored eyes so , its not really unusual but , youre right krayzie, we should really expand our views on things ive actually heard the term refugee, but i didnt think it was referring to cubans who imigrate to florida.
well if anything they say it behind ur back its rare for some one to say wats up REF if that happens to me we goin fight but last year like 3 or 4 girls called me a ref a couple of times in lunch till i told them off oh yeah last year some ***** showed his ass and said: kiss my ass REFs i went up to him to fight him and stuff and he said not u them and i was like im Cuban too and later that day he called me a REF and pissed i went up to him and he said: yo im joking i wont call u that no more yeah ur right about the eyes i have very dark eyes lol
Heh, yeah being overweights no big problem, and when it comes to doing any sprts i'm the only guy putting any effort into it and my friends stand around like zombies, its all about the attitude! :D
People like to pigeonhole others and say hurtful things to make themselves feel better and more superior. Racism sucks and I totally disagree with it. I couldn't care less where someone comes from, what they believe or what they look like. If someone accepts me then I accept them. Simple as that. People who deride others just to make themselves feel superior are sad.
