To no longer permit fire arms/other weapons in homes without a permit from the city. If that is done, guns will be just as illegal as drugs are =/

I believe that its true that Japan
has one of the lowest crime rates
in the world, because thier population is
so dence, causing almost no one to
    be unemployed.

Well, what I think the solution to crime is, after school programs and a better police squad in some areas.

Simple, to get rid of crime, get rid of it's counterpart. If there is no law, there is no such thing as crime.

Not necessarily. FOr freedom to have any actual meaning, there has to be certain rules in place to keep people and society in control. Eliminating the idea of law will only make the problem worse.

Without killing every single human being on earth, getting rid of crime is theoretically impossible for one reason: PEOPLE ARE IMPERFECT. There are always going to be deviants who do things the "wrong" way. As long as there are people and societies, there will be "crimnals" as well.

Actually, the only way to get rid of something perminently is to destroy the universe.

    Educate them.

Teach our ignorant youth to have pride and honor. DRUGS ARE BAD, AND DO WHAT I DO!

    ...

    Study yearly. (Once a year)

A solution to crime, you say?

I dont think there is a method to solve crime in long-time terms at all. We can educate the next generation and younger kids to do the right thing and not commit murder/rape/robbery/take drugs.

libregkd is probably referring to something like Aldous Huxley's "A Brave New World".

In theory, this would work--save the argumentative beliefs by humanists.

It's a scientific idea that means all human life is genetically predetermined before birth as to what their occupations are going to be, their income, etc. As such, using combined methods of classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and assortments of clinical drugs, this keeps individuals on track of their 'predetermined' destinies. As well, individuals in this society are very aptly monitored and cared for. Everyone drinks and nourishes themselves at the same time, eat the same amount of food as everyone else. These are all calculations made to not put any of the individuals into any forms of distress.

This model prevents crime because individuals in this society are incapable of emotion, and thus will never feel unhappy, inadequate, or feel anxiety. They can't feel elation because they don't know what sadness is. They don't know what desire is because their imaginations and to some extent--their brain capacity--doesn't allow them to think outside the tasks that have been required of them. In other words, you can't miss or desire what you've never wanted; you can't feel that you're being morally imprisoned if you don't know what freedom is; you can't experience thirst or hunger if you're always being well nourished before such biological indicators can kick in.

Many people like to say that "no one can be happy there because no one has free will". But what you're forgetting is that to the people in this hypothetical society, they don't know what free will is. They can't feel misery if they don't know that there's something better for them out there. They're fed, clothed, given a job that they're good at, have a house, an income, what's there to be angry and sad about? (Even though this is hypothetically impossible). What you don't know won't hurt you; ignorance is bliss. You could reference that to the Bible when Adam and Eve committed the original sin when they ate the Forbidden Fruit; it is knowledge itself, that is the problem.

Now of course, this is just a theory, and as all of you can probably imagine, this would be a very hard thing to pull off. Ignoring that fact that probably no civilization on the planet presently would want to go this route, and the fact that we lack the scientific technology to effectively pull this off, not to mention the immorality of the idea, many humanists like to believe that it is *innate* human nature to always want more, and seek more than what one has and knows about the world around them. Empirically, this can't be proven, since dealing with matters like that need construct validity, and finding that can take years and even then, they almost never find enough suggestive evidence. At best, it can only be suggested, not proven.

So going back to what you said, anniexo_lexa, they won't rebel because they wouldn't know what to rebel against, and for what reason. Free will is more or less something we learn we have because of the world we live in. We grow up being taught that we have a right to make choices for ourselves in many respects. If one grew up in Huxley's "Brave New World", the situation would be a lot different.
