This will be short and to the point: Soul Eater is a keyblade. If this theory I will explain right now is true, it also rules out that Terra is Xemnas.

Ok...now people may be like "...? How the hell did he come up with something like this?"
Look at this video. Closely. 1:20 - 1:25 seconds to be exact (this is the new BBS footage)

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oFKwH2uG1v4

    The eye on the hilt...
    the bluish, dark purple coloring

It has the same appearance as souleater...only the blade and hilt is different.

    What does this mean?
Well, lets work with what we know...Riku has soul eater...Xehanort's heartless has/had a soul eater...and now in this vid, we see that DA has it too.

"Uh...yeah...but...soul eater and the DA's keyblade look totally different dude..."
Right. Dealing with that now. On to the "thin ice" of my theory.

Xehanort is the DA. Xehanort has been known to steal names...
    1. it wouldnt be suprising if he stole Master Xehanort's name.
    2. the armor that DA wears is really similar to Riku's dark armor. Who else could he have gotten it from? Xehanort.

Okay, now for the second part of my "thin ice."
"Why doesnt/didnt xehanort's heartless weild the Souleater keyblade then?"
Because, xehanort's heartless... is a heartless... why would he weild the very thing that kills his kind?
No...I think the souleater did something. I think it broke itself or something, or made itself so that a heartless could weild it. After all, once a keyblade chooses someone, its bound to its user to life...(as far as we can tell) its not like the keyblade said "ALRIGHT HES A HEARTLESS, VACATION TIME!" it had to do something

So now the souleater sword, (not keyblade) reaches Riku. Riku obtains it after gaining SOME power from Ansem...half of it I think, because Ansem's weapon was a spear like thing with two souleaters on each side...

Riku's heart had other plans...it was actually strong enough to weild a keyblade...so because of Riku's memories and source of power, "twilight," he gained a keychain...(keychains are formed from memories)...on the SoulEater keyblade...because of Riku's power I think it changed back to a keyblade, and allowed him to use it.

Also, go back to the video and look at the keyblade DA is carrying...its keychain less...

Way to the Dawn has a keychain on it...

what would happen if you took the keychain off...?

anyway, thats my thread...thanks for reading it...

Wow! How did you come up with this? It is so well thought out! Just.. wow. I now believe this theory.

I agree with what you said and said much of the same thing elsewhere when asked because to me it seemed that the Keyblade itself may have at one time been in Xehanort's hands or someone else but gone into a remission because the Keyblade is not going to function for a Heartless. Good strong analogy.

    But I have a question.

Why did Riku instead take Sora's keyblade at first, instead of Soul eater changing?

Why did Riku get The princesses' hearts blade? (Soul taker.) Where does it fit into your theory?

The Master's keyblade did have a keychain, as did the Dark Soldier. The only two keychains in the battle.

I admire you for your theory. As such I feel it is my duty to hurl as much fault as possible at it. Don't take it personally.

1st question: Well there was another thread I wrote where I asked "are keyblades alive?" I think that the keyblade made a mistake and saw Riku's ambition but it was nothing like the power of Sora's heart...which is why it stayed with Sora after that. For good.

2nd question: the soultaker Was strange because it actually did let a heartless weild a keyblade like...thing...I think soultaker was a psuedo keyblade though...it might have had only one purpose, therefore being a-weapon-shaped-like-a-key and not a keyblade.

3rd question: I thought about this too because I could have sworn I saw a keychain on the DA's keyblade...unfortunately the link does not work (the video was removed due to copyright infringement T~T) but it clearly did not have a keychain then.

Why are you calling the Dark Keyblade as Soul Taker? It was just a pseudo Keyblade and the Dark Keyblade is the official name for it, I believe.

I already thought that Xehanort was DS, I mean he was stealing everyone's name. Xehanort taking out the X= No heart or another, another no heart=heartless? From the word heartless it would mean no heart, so maybe Xehanort is a heartless, DS, whatever you want to call him. I didn't really get the armor part...maybe it's just something that consumes you over when you turn to the darkness and your a human (human heartless). But Riku's not a heartless right? Wait...that just brought up some more questions to me...I'll keep what I just said to myself alright...

    Omg Genius!

Very good theory. I wish I had the patience to sit down and think all of these things out! What motivated you to link all of this together? Or did you just stumble upon it? Very nice. Very thought-provoking.

    thanks, lol...
I guess I was getting annoyed at how Riku and the DA had so many similarities, that I decided to form some kind of idea about how they could possibly be similar...my idea may not be perfect but...I think its good enough right now.

Well...I dont think Riku became a heartless he just got his heart taken over by darkness

and I think that Riku obtained souleater (despite the fact that he had a heart) because he got his power from a heartless...I also think thats why Way to the Dawn has a heartless keychain

I dont know actually...I copied Pika, lol.

    Ah, that video.

Well, unfortunately it kills off one detail of your theory, but it gives me tons to theorize as well!

    No keychain...

    Keychain...

or was it the other way around? I need to see that video!

Man, I don't think I would ever be able to think of a theory like that. It makes sense.

well I saw repliku's message...I necrobumped this because I thought it would be important for all those people who were wondering where Riku's WTTD came from. So...lock please if this is not right.

Wow, that theory is very well thought out. I never would have noticed any of that without you pointing it out (especially the keychain part). Too bad the movie is gone now =/. Anywho, way to make me think!

Xehanort never had Soul Eater. Riku has Soul Eater in Traverse Town before he gets his dark powers. Good theory, though.

    Um... Yeah.
Maleficent gave it to Riku. The thing you need to think about is who gave it to her.
There are definately some other flaws to this aparently well made theory, but... Yeah.

Xehanort's heartless "did." Look at the final bosses' weapon in kh1.

Then...explain the other things like the eye, on the keyblade DA was holding, and why the final boss (xehanort's heartless) was weilding it...

Well,Riku obtain Soul Eater after he joins Maleficent, and Xehanorth Heartless had like,a spear made of two Soul eaters.
I think it's because he was in Riku's body, and the Soul Eater power ups depending on the Darkness of the someone wielding it or something like that.
