Ah, Rotten Tomatoes; what a terrible reviewing site.

I don't keep up with review sites so I have no idea if Rotten Tomatoes is generally reputable or not, but that's surprising. ._. I've seen the commercials for the Lego movie and they just didn't really click with me. Glad to see it's not terrible though.

Rotten Tomatoes is just a critic aggregate. It can be nice as a collection of different critics' opinions, but imho you need to be careful with it because it marks reviews as 'fresh' or 'rotten' and then averages them, regardless of whether a critic who gave a 'rotten' review also had some good things to say about the film or vice-versa. Personally I think you get a better idea of what the critics thought by going to a movie's page and looking at the review average (in this case 8.4/10).

Anyway, this is promising, but the movie's not out yet so I'm wary lol. Films are often selectively pre-screened for only the critics that the studio thinks will like it. At this rate I think the percentage has a chance to stay pretty good, but I doubt it'll remain at 100 haha.

It's the best thing you use to show why a movie's bad, but the thing you just ignore when you don't agree with it.
And I thought the trailers for the movie were fun, I really liked the sense of humor it had. The "everything is awesome" song that played after he had to pay like
    $30 for coffee is hysterical.

Let's talk about why listening to reviews that focus on number scores rather than actually reading, listening to, or watching the reviews is a bad idea.

I only saw the trailer the lights, and animation kept hurting my eyes.

I thought it looked quite good. I always try to steer clear of review sites because they mess with my perception of the film and I find it harder to enjoy and judge it for myself.

I still question why we are making films and games of franchises made of lego xD Not complaining though, lego Batman is one of the greatest games ever!

Each time I've seen the trailer for this film I cringe with fear. First Lego had to squeeze themselves into the video game business, which by the way, in my personal opinion, I find deplorable and completely head-scratching insane; but now they have to make a film.....

Just shoot me when some moron decides to make a live-action lego film. Because you know what? It's bound to happen some day

Then you've clearly never played any of the Lego Star Wars games, which are godly.

No, I have, because my younger brother bought them all, and even played the Indiana Jones ones as well, and all of them, like I said, make me cringe. There's just something creepy and disturbing about them and they shouldn't exist

Let's talk about how vastly different it is to write an original film based around Lego characters, while being able to draw humor from pop culture, than it is to make a video game about an established franchise being converted into non-speaking Lego versions of themselves.

But seriously, this film keeps looking better and better, because hell, I was VERY skeptical when I saw the first trailer, but as they keep showing more well-written comedy, I've been rethinking that position, to the point that The Lego Movie is easily looking like the funniest non-R rated film planned for a 2014 release, and I'll be damned if I let my opinion simply be swayed by the fact that it's about Lego characters. For comparison, look how many people enjoyed a film about talking computer-animated toys.

Also, I would add to this, take a look at the talent. The people working behind this also worked on the 21 Jump Street film (and currently on 22 Jump Street), which a lot of people fell in love with, even though I will admit that I hated the trailers.

This basically goes into any kind of storytelling: It doesn't matter what the subject matter is about as long as you have a passionate person who can tell a really great story.
