maybe you guys could put a button in the home page or user profile that you press and randomly puts you in to any trhead that was updated this week(at least)

Hmm, I believe that something like this is possible, yes. However, can't you just press the What's New? Button? I mean, it lists all the threads that were updated since you last logged in.

    Agreed.

That's why the Current Activity when users are in that area is Searching Forums. This shows that it is a tool that quite a few people use, and that you may want to check out and see if it works for you.

you might find something you never knew, something informative, something you like...

Okay, you want a thread randomizer or shuffle so as to not skim through a list of new threads? Well, it does sound fun, and it shouldn't be too hard to set up. But really, it's not a neccesity. And I personally believe that the What's New? should suffice.

In the mean time, go here and search to see if you find some sort of add-on that can accomplish this (I'll give it a look myself too)

I check most to all new threads when I log on, honestly it's not that hard. Something like this might be fun for some people but I would find it a nuisance because there are some places I don't like going to. Also you would have to find a way to block out the spam zone because it would be like trying to pick one of the few started threads in all the other places compared to the hundreds of started threads in the spam zone. Honestly I find this idea more trouble then it is worth.

I think you're looking for something like this, right?

I approve this suggestion (you could find some great gems by pure chance).
However, I would suggest something like preferences (not finding locked threads or choosing a certain time window of threads like no threads made before last year or something), but I don't think the mod ever finished development or is even updating (but I don't known for sure. I don't frequent vBulletin).

Sorry for the late reply! Unfortunately, I can't install mods. But I'm sure the Admins will know/already know about this.

Mmmkay, I've read what Bueno posted (nice find) and it seems to be pretty neat. However the only issue (aside from technical ones which I'm oblivious about) is that it would clutter the Navbar.

Oh! and it may not be very efficient on bigger forums. I'm not sure if it would affect us, but chances are it won't.

What I propose is just making the What's New? a drop-down menu containing New Posts, New Group Messages and Random Thread. That way, you can go down into the What's New? Drop-down on the Navbar and just pick what you'd like to see.

I'll take a look at the mod and try to find a way to incorporate it, probably something similar to what Chev said (making 'What's New' a dropdown). This concerns me, though:
But, no reason to not give it a try.
