How is there not a thread for this?

I saw this today and I was just amazed by it! I think the soundtrack was exceptional, it fit so beautifully despite the fact the film is set in the 1920s.

I thought it followed the book to the letter (with a few minor alterations but nothing huge) and it represented all the themes that I studied back when I looked at the book. The film itself brought out those emotions and concepts even more, I felt, which I why I loved this film and I would recommend going to see it. A beautiful story about a man who lives and breathes for this woman and how he just wants companionship in his warped ideas that money gets you that.

Anyway, trailers(both because I like them both :3)! Definitely go and watch it if you get the chance.

I reallyy, reallyyyy want to see this but I can't get anybody to go see it with me and I feel weird going to a movie by myself lol But I'll probably go anyway because this was one of my favourite books that I read it high school. I'm also really interested in seeing how Leo portrays Jay and to see if I like Carey Mulligan's acting because even though she had a really small part in Pride and Prejudice, I still think she did a good job.

Haven't had the chance to see this yet (and might not for a while), but I'm not sure the trailers really sold me on it. The photography, while it looks great, seems TOO modern, and especially with those car scenes, seems more like a Fast and Furious movie. The music, also doesn't seem fitting. It's the 1920's, hearing auto-tuned singers and electronic whatevers doesn't really fit. The acting, however, seemed spot on, and it seemed really driven. Also, I can't believe this is in 3D. Anyways, I'll watch it at some point, but I don't have terribly high expectations. It'll probably just be an average movie.

I saw it a while ago. While the acting was really good for most of the main cast, the photography was kinda hit or miss: some scenes were just perfect (like the green light stuff, the industrial area between where the cast live and the city, and Gatsby's house), while others just felt too modern (as said, the scenes with cars, the party at Gatsby's, from what I remember.) I felt the same way about the soundtrack: hit or miss. Lana Del Ray's was a great choice for (what I believe to be) the main theme, while some of the rap songs...I get what they were going for, but it just felt too juxtaposed.

Overall, I think it's a really enjoyable film, but it does have its flaws from seeming to try too hard to be stylish.

I absolutely loved the soundtrack, I found it fitting despite it's based in the 1920's, I think it's simply because it translates to the modern audience what these parties were like. I personally wouldn't get the same sort of interaction if it was songs of the time. I thought the music was incredibly powerful and really highlighted the themes of the film.

I do understand the concern though xD it does seem very juxtaposing and the car scenes were quite fast paced but I loved that, it just highlighted his way of living in order to impress others and surrounding himself with the action of the world.
