The Future of Square Enix

Where do you think SE is headed? Do you think that the FF and Dragon Quest series will remain its greatest assets in the future, or do you think that newer series/games like KH and The World Ends With You will become even more important?

 

Im almost 100% sure that Kingdom Hearts will become there most important asset due to its high popularity all over the world . As for FF and DQ im sure they will stay within the top 3 . TWEWY is hard to say, it was a great game but if they decide to make a sequel im scared it will be to diffrent from the original, so we'll see i guess .

 

I agree. Nomura remarked recently that "the Kingdom Hearts series has "succeeded the blood" of the Final Fantasy series in terms of spirit due to it having the element of an action, RPG and more."

Don't get me wrong, the FF series contains some of the best games ever created, but I don't think SE can continue to make FF games indefinitely.

 

I see the FF series getting a Face lift in the future, mabee verses XIII will be that face lift

 

i don't see how that can be true even if nomura announced it. i don't think its possible to compare 3 KH games to 12 FF's in terms of success finacially and in terms of fanbase

FF is basically squares flagship series. its what they've been known for for the past 20 years. i can see final fantasy continuing till square goes out of buisness just because every game follows a new storyline with new characters. KH has always been based upon 1 storyline. theres only so far you can go with that in mind unless they decide to switch to new characters and a new storyline (which actually kinda reminds me of BBS) but if anything i think KH will be canceled far before FF

 

I dont think FF will be canceled I think it will be changed from what it is to something new, mabee more of an action RPG, and you cant forget DQ its Squares #1 game in Japan as far as I know

 

Maybe. I'm just worried there might be a situation with FF that resembles the Simpsons (i.e they should have stopped making it years ago). I'm most definitely not saying that's the case now or anything (far from it) but sometime in the (hopefully distant) future, there may come a time when FF is in a similar situation. Unlikely but possible.

 

KH will be an axelrific hit to all SE fans and KH fans. Anyways, I saw a gameplay vid of TWNWY, I think it sucks! Badly!

 

If you think that then you have no idea what the game is like at all, it is by far one of SE's best games of all time

 

Noooooooo! TWEWY is the most amazing game ever! Seriously, when I bought it I was like "meh, this might be good" but once I started playing I realized just how amazing it was! It's indescribably good. Every RPG fan should play it. And it's really tough in parts (always a good thing). There are just so many good things to say about it. The combat looks odd but is really fun.

 

I don't wanna know about a game that has a cheap Sora clone. Anyways, my point is that KH will be the top 1 in SE. FF would still be alive due to reamkes.

 

Neku is SO not a Sora clone. They are completely different in terms of personality. Neku is cynical and apathetic, Sora is..well...Sora. Neku is a MUCH better character than Sora.

I actually feel bad for you if you won't give it a chance. It's amazing. Oh well, it's your loss. =.=

BTW, Nomura designed both Neku and Sora, which would explain the fact that they look a little alike.

Anyways, I can noticed that Nomura designed Sora and that clone. Nomura must have a thing for brown haired and brown eyed dudes.

I'll have to look up this "Mana" series. The old games sound good from what you've said about them.

Axelrific, your point is sorta contradictory, as Sora was based on one of Nomura's other characters, Sion, from The Bouncer. Therefore, you really shouldn't be interesting in a game with a Sion clone, like Kingdom Hearts.

Also, Neku is an infinitely more developed and interesting character then Sora ever has been.

And KH is hardly S-E's "Top 1" franchise, the series really is surviving based on how popular it is in America (Disney territory), it's not all that popular in Japan.

 

Well it sold more in Japan, didn't it, TMM? I could have sworn I heard about something like that.

Anyway, I think TWEWY and KH will eventually be more important as more generations will grow up around them (in the gaming realm). TWEWY has excellent character and story points that I think will appeal to many S-E fans for a long time. KH, not so much, though. I can't see KH being the best game for them, since it's in collaboration with Disney. Though it certainly sells more.

But by all means, FF and DQ will live on as true titles to S-E for as long as they are around, and as long as Video Games are still around in terms of the public in general.
