Kingdom Hearts II the dark place

When Sora and the gang where given the picture of Twilight Town with Roxas in and the Sea-salt ice lollie from Riku where were they? It never says...

 

Realm of Darkness, I think?

The Realm of Darkness is almost as big as the Realm of Light, if not as big, I would guess.
The whole dimension could be different. Just like how earth has cities in one place, forests in another, water somewhere else, the Realm of Darkness probably has differing terrain.

 

so why wasn't Sora and the rest of them affected by the darkness in that realm?

 

Because they were only there for about 5 minutes and maybe the darkness wasn't as strong there as in other areas. I mean why aren't they affected by the realm of light? its basically the same type of thing.

 

My guess is that it looked different than before, as the realm of darkness keeps changing with the different balances of power and stuff that goes on and it probably looks different for different people, as before it was behind the first kingdom hearts door and then riku and mickey were in it etc... Then with the rocks and the beach and so on... Just a random thought.

And as other people said, yeah I think it was just a part of the realm of darkness, or part of maleficent's darkness as she sent them there, she may have just sent them to a limbo state as she 'helps' them.
