"I was watchin T.V. the other day right Got this white guy on there talkin bout black guys Talkin about how young black guys are targeted Targeted by who? America You see, one in every 100 Americans are locked up 1 in every, 9 black Americans are locked up And see what the white guy was trying to stress was that The money that we spend on sending a mother****a to jail A young mother****a to jail Would be less to send, his or her young ass to college (heh) See, and another thing the white guy was stressing was that Our jails are populated with drug dealers You know crack, cocaine, yeah, stuff like that Meanin due to the laws we have on crack cocaine and regular cocaine The police are only I don't want to say only right, but **** Only logic by riding around in the hood all day And not in the suburbs, because Crack cocaine is mostly found in the hood And um, you know the other thing is mostly found... You know where I'm going But why bring a mother****a to jail If it's not gonna stand up in court Because this drug ain't that drug You know level 3, level 4 drug, **** like that (heh heh) Mmm hmm, I guess it's all a misunderstanding, and um I sit back and think well **** us young mother****ers, You know, that 1 in every 9 We probably only selling the crack cocaine just because we in the hood And it's not like the suburbs We don't have the things that you have Why? I really don't want to know the answer, but uh... I guess we just misunderstood uh, yeah You know we don't have room in the jail Now for the real mother****ers, the real criminals, you know Sex offenders, rapists, serial killers, **** like that Don't get scared, don't get scared I know you saw one them sex offenders papers Don't trip, he live right on the end of your block, mmm hmm Yeah, that ***** live right down the street from you Sex offender on a level 3 drug, convicted, ex-con, yeah, check him out And what you got, you got daughters, son, what you got? Yeah, well you know what You know what? I have a ****in daughter You understand me? And, why the **** would you bring my neighbor To jail just because the reason why he live next door to me Ain't the reason why I live next door to him Mean that, he didn't rap his way to my ****in neighborhood He sold crack cocaine to get to my neighborhood You move him out, bring him to jail for life And then you move in a sex offender, heh heh heh They giving me a paper, heh heh Is that a misunderstanding, cause I don't understand it" - Lil Wayne Now tell me, what do you think of this? If it doesn't belong here then move it some where else.
I never knew that long line was from a song. I thought you were talking abuot your life for a second there. Anyways, I believe it does belong here or in the media section but atleast I'll talk. I think Wayne is showing his life in his view how he was seeing our world right now. Yes I agree with Li'l Wayne. Full of drug dealers, sex offenders and more. I guess that's what our world originally was since for the last few centuries. There is no way to change it now but I too wished that it would change in teh future.
I find that hard to believe. Well the song is called DontGetIt. No spaces. Look it up and skip too 2:51.
Yeah, I thought maybe it was all leading to a main idea, but the thoughts are scattered and unarticulated. All I really gathered was that black people are screwed over because of location and circumstance, which is mostly true. Another true thing is putting kids who made mistakes in jail rather then real criminals. Maybe instead of wasting time putting young people who made young mistakes in jail, we should be helping them and getting them out of the "ghettos". I do agree that change can, and should be made.
This is kind of exaggerated but it is also true. There are many people in jail for possession of drugs while for some reason there are people that are sex offenders and even murderers, people who also killed someone drinking and driving etc...that all get out sooner than those with drug possession. Also, it costs more than 25k a year to keep someone in jail. It costs around that or less to send a person to college if you think about it. Only high-end universities do cost that. Another point is these young people that end up in jail often meet contacts and will just keep a revolving door from being out to going back to jail repeatedly for drug possession and other less severe charges. So, yes, I do see a problem, especially for young black males in particular, but also for others who are in locations of poverty specifically and young adults. They live in some harsh areas and I've had to cope there too and watch friends even go to jail occasionally and it messed them up. It took a lot to try to help them stay out of going back to jail with all the demands the legal system puts on them to get a job etc when a lot of people are having trouble doing such. If they don't get work, they could go back to jail. Consider the fact that their criminal history is already marred so many employers won't take a chance on them because of the worry of theft or assault. It's screwed up. There is some prejudice by some people against black males mostly, but also there is prejudice against poor people in slum areas where the area is rough and they aren't actually targeting the ones making life horrible, but the people stuck in the environment that do 'some' things wrong but aren't the worst.
Just something I want to add, I live in the suburbs (Oh yes the irony) and there is a sex offender(Again, the irony) living right down the street from me.
We have sex offenders near where I live too and I'm not happy about it. I trust that person much less than I do someone who was in and out for possession of drugs. I can reach out to someone who had some trouble with the law but it's really hard to want to be around someone who did some sort of sexual violence act or went after children. I have no idea why they let these people back out to live amongst others and in areas where there are children or women that want the right to be able to go up and down their streets and not have to have a chaperon. Our obligations in this are just totally screwed up.
Yeah, I'd say as a whole the justice system in this country goes after criminals who perpetrate petty crimes, as opposed to the violent ones. Which is obviously just complete + total BS. Granted, it is sometimes harder to pin murder on people etc, but when they ARE apprehended, obviously some lame 7 year sentence isn't going to do the trick. If you killed/raped/fantasized about kids once, you will do it again. There is no going back :'P And honestly I find shit like that a LOT scarier than anyone who has a drug habit they sorely need to kick. Anything illegal should be properly taken care of, but I do think the priorities are just all off. Anyway, I agree with Repliku so yepp;;
