Why is it stupid crap like this constantly happens in America? All these stories make me more convinced to go live in Canada.

Seriously.. just to know what it "felt like"? Where are this girl's parents?

Also, she's apparently going to go to a mental hospital instead of prison. Better, I guess.

But why single out some 9 year old kid? What the hell could have warranted that?

Because things like this only happens in America?

Besides, 9 year old neighbor. Easy to get ahold of, especially if she babysat or knew the family for some time.
If it was me, I would have waited til I was older and probably do a vigilante kill.
But yeah, this is messed up. And to have it all planned out.
Seems like she doesn't have much of right/wrong system in her mind.

The inner-workings of one humans mind is for no one to unestand. All we will know is that she seems perfectly able to comprehend exactly what she has done and seems to have accepted the consequences of her actions.

I feel slightly sick at the fact that it doesn't have as much as an impact on me as i anticipated.

Agreed. She clearly understood she'd be viewed as a monster for doing this. Perhaps that's what she was after. Who knows...

It almost seems like something out of a comic. Maybe that's why I can't take it seriously. In fact, I'm almost... I don't want to say amused... Maybe intrigued?

your not alone. things like this interest me simply because you think that this person is human, just like you or me and they are capable of this whilst still maintaining there sense of selves of who they really are.

I don't think i explained that properly but people get my general meaning.

I heard about this about a week ago. It's hard to believe that someone that age would do that because of pure curiousity. It just makes me wonder about how good a job her parents are doing with the other child, now.

You can't really say she knew what she was doing, and I'm not sure the conclusions of the reasoning here are accurate. I mean, if you wanted to know how it felt to kill someone, you could at least cover all your bases. Kill a wider variety of people, sure a 9 year old is easy to dominate but the sense of control there can't really be as much as other instances. Also try some methods that aren't as blunt force; Burning, poisoning, etc. If she wanted to know what killing felt like, I'd imagine a better way to go about it would be to kill more people in more ways and make sure she had everything covered, right? She obviously had enough time to plan it out.

No, I understand. That's a good way to put it. And that notion greatly intrigues me; it speaks of our potential. Granted, the murder of a preteen is hardly the most novel method for exploring our potential as a species, but the principle remains.

That doesn't necessarily mean the girl didn't know what she was doing at all, just that details of the plan escaped her. I do get the point though, and that's something to think about. This may not have been as clear-headed as it seemed... or maybe the girl just didn't think about how far she could take this. Or she didn't want to kill more than she had to.

Sounds like the begginings of a psychopathic killer.

Not to sure on many details, but the very phrase 'what it feels like' just strikes me with the idea she wanted to do this for a while, fantasising months prior most likely debating the idea in her head. Probably a loner at school, or part of a sub-culture, maybe goth or emo in origin.
And that ladies and gentlemen, was a profile. Not a great one, but best I could do.

Most obviously she has some type of mental illness. Her silence in court and the induction into a mental health hospital says it all.
Another undiagnosed illness and another needless death.

I feel bad for the kid's family. God, I couldn't even imagine this. What it felt like, honestly. I mean I think we've all wondered at least at some point of our lives about what it's like to see death (or maybe I'm just crazy), but to go to the extent of killing a person?

I actually read about this article once while I had finished learning about minors being tried as adults.

Not really sure what to actually say about the girl, but just really shows how far curiosity might take someone. Its sad at the fact she just wanted to know the feeling of killing someone. Its rather sick, in my opinion. But also, when I had read this article when I first saw it on the internet, I kind of wondered of she really deserves to be tried as an adult and be sent to life in prison. It did seem planned out so maybe she does deserve it. But also, she's only fifteen, a teenager and being put life in prison is pretty...harsh seeing as how she's too young and being put into prison at that age will only corrupt her mind even more. That's the way I see it anyway.

I call mental illness. Everyone occasionally considers what emotions murder would evoke, but most, when considering carrying out the act of murder, give up on the task due to ethics, morals and plain disgust at the notion of killing someone. Considering this, I would say that this girl lacks the morals or ethics, which could be considered a mental disorder. In any case, there is more to this than what it seems.
