You should've at least tried to explain this better. Or at least make your own comment. >>

Anyways, I'm completely surprised that the doctor said he has never seen it before. Usually things like this are extremely rare but almost never are a "one case scenario" or something. I highly doubt extending life expectancy passed what evolution has allowed us to have is a good idea. Unless it makes modified people sterile. >> It'd only make overpopulation an even worse problem. Still, I'm glad someone's studying this. It's a great find in the name of science.

Many people like this do the Growth Hormone Treatment, but that has no affect on this girl. Doctors classified her with a thing called: "X Syndrome."

Honestly, I can't wait to find out what the religious community has to say about it. This is probably going to start a lot of controversy with a lot of high-standing people, but to think something like this can actually happen, it's pretty interesting.

It's a rare disease, which she, unfortunately, got. =/

What I have to wonder, though, is if they're looking for a cure. The video didn't really say anything about that, but that's the first thing I would do if I were in their shoes.

I also have to wonder what it's like for the parents, because, normally, parents don't take care of their children, to that extent, for so long.

I swear I heard of this a year or two ago...
It's such a strange thing to occur, I wonder how her physical appearance has changed in the years she was supposed to be growing up.
She could honestly be a great hold to scientific discovery, and a bright future for the scientific industry.

People have always wished to be young forever but this can really change perspective. If she isn't really aging then does this mean that she won't die? It's hard to conceive this thought.

At the end of the video, the doctor was explaining how it could stop growth. However he didn't explain what growth would be stopped.

If you look at Brooke, she is 16. But she cannot talk, nor has she grown. Her condition makes it clear that that gene may stop growth altogether. Physical, and mental.

I can understand how most people don't want to look older, and i wonder how life will be like when i can't do simple tasks; like going up and down the stairs. However during my time i'm on this Earth, i'd much rather age with knowledge and wisdom, than remain a 25 year old for who-knows-how-long with no learning.

That's what the doctor made it sound like the gene does...

It's not a disease though. It's a genetic condition that cannot be passed on through any kind of contact unless she were to breed, which I doubt will ever happen. Because it is a genetic condition, it is also impossible to find any sort of "cure." If the genetic research does anything for it, they may be able to help her with gene therapy, but that's extremely limited as it is.

What truly is surprising to me is that she seems to have a fully working body (excluding hip problem) most gene abnormalities result in either legs, arms, or other body parts not moving well, It seems that for the most part she's completely healthy. If doctors found out what gene caused this condition they could probably stop the aging process, but then you get into morality when it comes to living a prolonged life.

She is, no doctor saw something like this before.

Don't think they're looking for a cure now, The doctors, however, are researching on how the girl stayed like a toddler.

Your right. But I don't know if a teenager trapped in a baby's body who still has her baby teeth and eats through a stomach tube can live forever. It would be amazing if that happened, but I don't know if its possible.

Wow this is really old news. Hell there was a program on Health channel involving many teens with this problem and they all met at a convention.
She is aging, just not physically. Her brain will age even if it can not be shown, no one can live forever. As you age your perception of time speeds up (like when you are little Christmas comes so slow, but when you're older it seems to come right up) if one ever stays alive for more than some age you would mostly just die from going mentally insane.

Also she would probably act older if she were treated her age, not a baby.

Yes, many teens interface that problem, but nothing like Brooke.
    True True, that can happen

well, this is perplexing. Has this ever been shown to happen before? And if she can't age physically, why not mentally? Wouldn't she still age enough that she's still the mental maturity of 16?

I suppose this would be an interesting science to research but I do think there are more important things as we all care about aging and we don't really want it to happen but I don't think we should look at how to stop growth. I am happy that the parents are happy and feel blessed- I can't imagine what that would feel like, I know that when I have children I want to watch them develop and grow older and if they got 'X Syndrome' then I wouldn't love them any less I would just feel very upset at not getting to watch them grow.

They're not trying to figure out HOW to stop growth. They are figuring out WHY it occoured.

Well, she sorta behaves like a 16-year old. She lovs to shop and is (Sometimes) a bit rebellious.

Things like this interest me, but at the same time scare me. I can't really explain it, like I have some fear of this happening all over the Earth.

I sincerly hope it will not. I mean, Brooke may not be getting older, but her parents will, and if she'll outlive them, who is going to take care of her? Can you imagine yourself a world full of toddlers? I think Nature would never let that kinda stuff happen.
