    ARTICLE
    In other words
Teachers can get arrested for following the law.
This guy seems to be an old-timer in my opinion.
He doesn't seem to understand that preaching abstinence doesn't work.
And even if it did, there are kids out there who are already getting into sex. Can't teach them abstinence, but you can teach them safety.

I can't agree with you more, Jeffrey. You look at any high school and most of them are already having sex. Therefore, teaching abstinence can be taken as a moot point. Yes, they can learn the importance of abstinence, but let's face it. Chances are that they will end up being sexually active at some point in their lives. If they don't learn the importance of safe sex then there's going to be an increase in STD's and teenage pregnancies. If the older generations choose to not teach safe sex, that's sending a message of ignorance to younger generations and they'll more likely go out and have unsafe sex. It'll start a small domino effect, so to speak.

So basically, the ******s in charge of instating laws have put up a new one which in direct contradiction of a previous one? Whereby following the new law breaks the old one?

I seriously pity each and every American citizen, your country is run by buffoons and imbeciles.

Technically we're talking about a state, not the whole country.
Unfortunately, that doesn't make your statement any less true.

What actually happened is that the state passed a law for teachers to teach about safe sex. But the schools have the option not to teach sex education and parents have the option to pull their kids out of the class. But those who teach sex education must teach about safe sex.

The attorney disagrees. It's not that they made a new law that contradicts the previous one, it's that he disagrees so he's going to find other laws that don't necessarily have anything to do with this specific law and twist it around to make the teachers criminals until the state repeals the safe sex education law.

^ Pretty much exactly what I was going to type. You don't need a bloody study to show that an abstinence-only programme will fail with teens in high school. It's only realistic to teach about safe sex.

Lol, we already get taught all this. :v

So wait, he isn't being malicious, just picky? In a way he is actually helping then. xD

Is it just me who thought the comment about Youtube was really obscure? :v

So basically, in his opinion teaching young people to have safe sex and not contract STDs/STIs is evil and wrong and so he is trying to force this opinion on the state education system by using loopholes in the law?

The joys of the insane. And I don't think criminally insane would be going too far.

So it was illegal according to a previous law to teach about condoms and stuff? O_o
We got taught how to put them on when we were like 13-14 at school, the whole plastic phallus thing and all XD
Makes for some very entertaining lessons.

That has to be one of the biggest, and weirdest, law mistakes in a really long time.

I understand where the dude is coming from seeing as teaching them how to have safe sex is almost encouraging them to have sex in some people's eyes and the majority of the students are probably under the legal age of consent, which does make it technically illegal for them to have sex.

Some people are not reading the article very clearly. No laws are being contradicted; it's just that one moron is trying to criminalize a perfectly reputable practice that is optional to begin with.

That said, Southworth is full of sh*t. I'm going to skip his more ludicrous points and say that sex ed classes typically don't encourage people to have sex, the reason being because they were thinking about it anyway. We should know this happens, legal or not. And at the point we've gotten to with teen pregnancies/STDs being a constant worry and so on, we need to make these provisions and introduce people to these concepts early on.

It doesn't make sense to begin with to wait until people are legal to teach them about sex; they won't know what they're doing well enough to be as responsible about it as the law seems to think they are. It is accepted that you can have sex at age 18 because you're mature enough to handle it, but a big part of maturity is education, and with that crucial piece missing we may as well let anyone of any age have sex because they're all equally ill-equipped for it.

where i live they teach us sex-edu. but when they show the condom they say"boys it breaks." Also the teachers say that"Men don't need***,they just want it." so at my school basically its all good 'cept all the boys were shocked.(i wasn't). And where i live, its a good thing if you go to school.

Ah, Wisco, my favourite place for dishing out **** that plagues humanities social foundations.
But sriously, the education of sex is important and not something that should be seen as a taboo of any form. Learning about STI's was fine, until the pictures came... I turn celibate when I see those images. But that's the effect it is trying to give, that sex has it's downs however much someone may hype it up.
The control of pregnancy and the fertality rate are key in many governments regime, such as in China with the one child policy in place. As such, condoms are the most effective form of keeping STIs and pregancies to a low. However to succesfully use this tool, education is needed like any part of life requires us to. If people find it something tough to educate unto the younger generation our luck in the furture will fall far behind when it comes to the number of people become sterile from STIs.

Flavoured condoms remind me of flavoured medicine, both of them complete with sexual inneundo. I do wonder if it makes the use of condoms anymore appealing.

Think this counts those sexual abuse videos too? I had to devote some of my time the last couple of days so the guidance counselor could come in and show my fifth grade class a video on sexual harassment. Nice to know potentially I could lose my job for trying to protect kids, seeing as that's now part of my job requirement.

    lol, wut?
Getting arrested for following the law?
Thats kinda stalemate. If you don't teach it, you get arrested. If you teach itm you get arrested.

Which American plonker decided it would be smart to make that rule up?
    Cause it's really stupid.
