I personally think the fact anyone is debating this is simply ******ed. Whether or not the guy was teaching creationism...he maimed his students. >.>

This guy, is an irrefutable psychopath. It's not even a matter of religion at this point. He should be jailed for doing that students.

    true

the guy burned crosses into the students arms!?, and all they dispute about is the fact that he teached creationism.

and maybe he kept his bible in his desk and got accused for it?

i, mean, why would they go to such extremes because of a bible, the burning crosses thing, i would understand , and maybe consider the teaching creationism, but the bible thing sounds ridiculous

His job, as a science teacher, was to teach science, not creationism. He wasn't doing his job, and he was imposing the beliefs of himself on his students who may(or may not) even be Christian. I think him not doing his job correctly is reason to fire him. Him burning his students, that should be the main reason though that you, and apparently a lot of other people aren't realizing.

yet again we see the media's ill idea of proportion. Nost of the article is about the christainity when the more serious aspect is the maiming.

It's one thing to believe in God and Follow Jesus by telling others... But that taking it to an extreme... To those students the cross is not a symbol of refuge and forgiveness now... Its a symbol of insanity and pain...

Evangelical Christian fanatics are really becoming a problem in this country especially. He should not be a -Science- teacher if he refuses to teach people science as it should be taught. Creationism is not a school topic. It is a religious thing and many Christians even can see that it was written from the standpoint of some men back in the day when they all thought the world was flat and resting on 4 pillars yadda yadda.

I really don't care that he had a Bible in the classroom so long as he wasn't READING it while the teaching etc. He apparently also had other religious paraphernalia too and was a 'science teacher'? It seems like some sort of set up to try to corrupt science instead of teach it fairly to students. However, these people are obviously missing the point that this isn't the issue -alone-.

What I do care about is that he was burning his students and doing weird acts to show his devotion to Christianity and trying to force the beliefs on the students both physically and mentally. There is no question in my mind that he should be fired and never teach again. The only people that will see him as a courageous fighter and defender of religious rights are other evangelical Christians that don't seem to mind if students' arms are burnt by crosses or that he mangles the rights of students to learn education and not be stupid, but certainly would have a problem if a Satanic believer or Wiccan etc drew with a marker a pentagram on their kids' arms without the danger of fire being even involved. Then, it would be 'evil'.

-Sigh- I give up on trying to voice my opinion before you already say it and explain it in more detail.

I do agree with Repliku's post. The science teacher should be teaching science and not creationism. He shouldn't be forcing Christian ideas on students who may not be Christian. Or if they are even Christian at all in my opinion. And burning crosses onto the student's arms?

This just makes me glad that I don't live in that part of Ohio.

There many people across America who seem to have the same problem, most of them being senators >_>

Is that not what all religious leaders do?

A science teacher should never mention religion in class. Ever. Science class is for science, religion saved for R.E. (Religious Education). If he doesn't like it, he can stop teaching science. Also, there should not be any religious material in the room, as this is contradictory to the purpose of the class.

As for the burning crosses into the students arms, I'm not surprised. He is a religious evangelical nut. They shouldn't be allowed near children, never mind teaching science.

Forget being fired, this person should be in jail for maiming his students thats disgusting. I don't really care about the bible thing.. its just another book, after all. If you disapprove of it, just think of it as a book of fairy tales.

Um, no. There are many religions out there who frown upon forceful conversion of people to their religions.

Anyway, This guy is just insane. I don't get why he would do this, in today's society. He must have thought that it would make him (and respectively his religion) look bad. Not to mention he burned children. I'm pretty sure he could be arrested for assault or something.

I might believe that religion is nothing but a way to suffering and this proves my point but if the guy wants to express his religion then he should be allowed, i mean being fired for that!!That principle should be fired for sheer stupidity.
