"In the year 2022, the Virtual reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) Sword Art Online (SAO) is released. With the Nerve Gear, a virtual reality Helmet that stimulates the user's five senses via their brain, players can experience and control their in-game characters with their minds."
[Additional details and profiles will be located in the OOC Thread.]

Thousands rush into stores everywhere, fighting for the new game. It was promised to be the best, something new entirely. All craved it. Stocks ran empty quickly, forcing some to go home empty-handed and filled with disappointment.
They had no idea just how lucky they were.
Ten thousand log into Sword Art Online, celebrating blissfully. This joy would be short lived though as the creator of the game, Kayaba Akihiko himself, comes into view with some fatal news; no one would be able to log out. Just removing the Nerve Gear would cause them to die as 213 people would soon find out. Only through making it to the 100th floor and defeating the final boss, thus winning the game, can they be freed.
And so panic fills the heart of every player as they wonder if they'll ever see the real world again.

With a week now gone people are beginning to adjust to this new world, some better than others. A few guilds have formed and a few take to the front lines. However not all can accept what is happening and refuse to leave the first town or even take their own lives.
It is a difficult time but alas you still live. You're on Floor One, levels no higher than level three at this point. Odds are against you but stay strong! It is far from over.

    • Don't powerplay, godmod, etc. The only time this would be okay if it's to jump start an event with given permission from me or by me.
    • Hopefully I've added enough where people who only know a little of the anime/light novels or never seen/read them can join. Though knowing the basics would be a big help.
    • No one-liners. I don't expect super long paragraphs with vivid details from everyone and/or all the time but I would love seeing at least some effort applied to your posts. With the best spelling and grammar you can do, though naturally nothing is perfect and mistakes are made so some would be fine.
    • Romance would be fun and cussing is allowed. Consider things PG-16.
    • NPCs are free to control as long as someone else was not controlling them before. If you'd like a reoccurring NPC (like your character's favorite shop keeper or something) please fill out a small form that has their name, appearance, and small description of them and post it in the ooc thread.
    • Feel free to suggest events, whether they be official or otherwise, at any given time. Or ask about anything that may confuse you.
    • SAO is a MMO without any magic or mage like characters. It's all sword based so keep this in mind while rping.
    • And please don't just drop out without a word. I totally understand losing interest or becoming too busy to keep up with a rp. So drop a message or something if you're quitting the rp or taking an extended break so I'll know.

The strangeness of this world still made little sense. It was all virtual yet the warmth of the sun touched her skin, the air brushed against her face, and even the tiniest of sounds reached her ears. It felt pure in a sense, like this was the real world and the one she knew before had been fake. So why did so many try so hard to leave? Why did they felt so crushed when they learned that they were trapped here? It was a puzzle, one that she could not hope to solve as she was now.
Currently staying at an inn Meerna had found life here a blessing. Sure she had to work for her keep, otherwise a life on the streets would be hers, but it was nice. And soon she hoped to own a house in the starting town, already working for the money to make her dream a reality. Unneeded items were sold, monsters were slain, and trades were made. Even so it would take time to even buy the cheapest house here if she kept spending nights at the inn but that was one thing she was not willing to compromise on. Because even though she loved this world she cared little for its players, not trusting any of them. So of course she would not sleep on the streets, not when one could make her accept a duel and steal everything. No, only false smiles were going to be given to the poor lot around her so that they may help her get what she needed.
On that note she rolled out of bed and changed from sleep wear to her basic armor. Something better would really help out in the field but money was saved, not spent on new weapons and gear. Not since buying the sleep wear anyway. And now that she was ready she exited the room and headed to the fields. Monsters there were growing thin, as fighters nearly cleared it already. But denial over this has set in as Meerna did not wish to move on to a new town. This town is where her friend passed and and as such it was her resting place, and the two of them vowed to be together forever. Even if it turned into Hell she would not leave this area. So she stayed, fighting against boars and other low leveled creatures out in the field, watching the road from time to time as others went by, not really caring as the hours flew by. It was a perfect life.

A pig-like monster ran at me, hurtling towards, brandishing its tusks. BAM! The monster rammed me in the stomach. I landed on my butt, cursing, "Dammit..." I watched me green life bar decrease slightly. The pig appeared to laugh at me. I got up and twirled my knives in my hands. "You're gonna get it now!!" I yelled as I lunged at the pig. The pig squealed and was caught off guard and I plunged his knives into the pigs torso. The HP bar of the monster rapidly disappeared and the pig disappeared in a flash of polygons and the sound of breaking glass.
"Phew!" I sheathed my knives, "I think it's time to take a break. Only half my HP's left..." I began walking down the dirt path towards the gates of The Town of Beginnings.

I'm Ittoki. Ittoki Otoya. You may know me from the idol group STARISH. We're really popular in Japan right now. It's been a week since I had joined SAO. At that time, the group was taking a few month break from the idol world. I heard about this amazing VRMMORPG called Sword Art Online and I was extremely excited when I finally got it. I started playing right away, once I got back to the group's penthouse apartment. But then, I discovered that I couldn't log out of the game. I'm really worried about my group-mates and my fans. We are supposed to resume working about 2 months from now.

I got back to town and headed over to my favourite restaurant. Amazingly, they have something that tastes like my favourite food - japanese curry! I plopped down on my usual seat. I ordered a plate of curry and the waitress brought a plate of "curry". I saved up my Col so I can eat my favourite. Before, I stuck to the usual bread and water, which was the cheapest meal in town. I stared out the window, admiring the stunning blue afternoon sky of Aincrad, while slowly enjoying my curry.

It was just a week ago that the news came out. She didn't have the time to act distraught about the news. She knew people would realize the situation and start their way up. Mya (known as Fellangel) quickly started to slay some animals around the fields trying to quickly level up.

An angry boar rushed towards Mya, causing her to jump left of the boar to avoid its attack and slashing at its side, dropping the boar's health into the red zone. The boar squealed in anger and rushed at her again. Mya jumped left again, though the boar sensed her movement and turned left, knocking her down. Catching her breath after the knockdown, she stabbed the boar in the neck, slaying it and disappearing into a bunch of shiny particles. Mya sighed and sheathed her dull iron sword, taking the boar meat it dropped. She kept reminding herself to stop acting careless in battle. A single mistake can end her life. She tugged on her uncomfortable leather armor, hoping she would get something more fitting. She brushed her white hair out of her eyes and started her way back into town, hoping she could cook something nice with the meat.

OOC: Okay changing to third person, cuz seems like everyone's doing third person...

Ittoki sighed. It's only been a week since he joined SAO. He really missed his friends. He paid for his meal and walked out of the restaurant. What should I do now? he wondered. Maybe I'll go train again. Ittoki checked his stats. Yeah definitely.

Ittoki wove through the maze of the streets of The Town of Beginnings, and eventually found his way back to the gates. He followed the path in the field, looking for some of the pig-like monsters in the grass. The grass near him rustled and he stopped in his tracks. A pig jumped out of the tall grass and stomped his hooves. "OMG! A pig-monster appeared! Go ITTOKI!!" he cheered himself on by referencing one of his favourite video games, Pokemon. Ittoki had gotten used to the fight patterns of the monster, and easily cut it down after 3 hits. He picked up the meat and after another half hour of hunting, he headed back to town. I wish I can cook this... He was talking about the meat he had collected. Guess I'll sell it so I can buy more curry~~

OOC: Yea 3rd person is more common in RPing :P

BIC: At the Town of Beginnings, Mya looked around the crowded markets. She sees waves of beginners scrambling to complete quests and buy items. After a lot of difficulty weaving through the crowd, she managed to reach the inn. She handed the boar meat with a few coins to the innkeeper. "This enough to give me some cooked meat?" The keeper nodded and handed it to the chef NPC which he placed in the stove and pulling it out after a second. He handed her the freshly cooked meat. She smiled at the chef in thanks and found herself a nice empty table. She sat down and chewed on a couple of pieces while listening to people talk. What she heard so far, some players are already making guilds and clearing the first few floors. It was a good start, but how long does it take to clear 100 floors? She knew the concepts of MMORPGs. A lot of grinding is needed later on in the games and the monsters are immensely stronger as well. "I wish I could help..." She shook her head and continued enjoying her boar meat.

Ittoki headed back to the inn he was staying at. He went into the dining area of the inn. He looked around. There were no empty seats except for one near the window, but there was a snow-haired girl sitting at the table already. He walked over to the table, "Ano... Is there anyone sitting here?" he asked the girl politely.

Elise walked through the crowded walkways in the Town of Beginnings. She was surprised at the number of people that ended up staying rather than making their way to the top. It had been roughly a week since the true nature of the game was disclosed to all the players inside the virtual world. This news was still the talk of the town, and from what Elise had observed, those who stayed were either skeptical or completely frightened. Last night she even saw someone attempt to leave the world out of fear, but she had quickly averted her eyes and walked away so she had no knowledge of whether he actually succeeded. Elise was neither scared nor unconvinced. "I will make it out of here...alive..." she kept telling herself.
When news first broke out, Elise was just as frightened as that man she saw. She wanted to see her family again, or at least her little sister. She spent the rest of that day, aimlessly walking around town thinking about her family, then recalling the events that led her to this game. Her sister's cries echoed in her head. From that point on she decided that her sister would be her motivation. From then on, every time she thought of her sister her desire to complete the game increased. Elise stayed in the Town of Beginnings for the first week, to regain stamina and hopefully meet someone with the similar goal of completing the game.
Elise entered a restaurant in hopes of joining a party, or at least making a friend. She sat down at an empty table next to one occupied by a girl with long white hair. Elise looked out the nearest window, trying to decide the best way to start a conversation. "Maybe I should just talk to that girl..." She heard footsteps walking towards her table, but she didn't turn her head.
"Ano...Is anyone sitting here?" a teenage boy's voice asked.
Elise wasn't sure whether he was asking her or the girl next to her, but decided to reply to him regardless.
"Of course, you may-" Elise turned her head. The boy was definitely talking to the other girl. Awkward.

Mya looked up to see a teenage boy at her table. She smiled at him and waved her hand to the empty chairs next to her. "Please feel free to join me. I could use some company. It gets very dull by doing everything yourself for a week straight." She grabbed a few extra plates and placed some boar meat on them. "Have something to eat as well please."

He took a seat across the girl. She offered him a share of her meal, "Have something to eat as well please."

"Eh? O-Okay." Ittoki scratched the back of his head, politely accepting the offer, "Itadakimasu." Thanks for the food. Ittoki was accustomed to say this before he ate. He took a bite of the boar meat. "Whoa!!" his eyes widened. He smiled, "This tastes pretty good for not-real food!" Ittoki wolfed down the rest of the food. "Gochisousama deshita~~!" That was good.

He wiped his mouth on a napkin before saying, "I'm Ittoki Otoya. What's your name?" He asked the girl sitting across from him.

Then Ittoki noticed a girl with white braids sitting at the next table over. She was looking down, and he noticed a bit of a blush on her face. Ittoki got out of his seat and squatted at the side of the other table, resting his arms on the tabletop. "Nee, want to sit with us?" he asked, hoping to make more friends here in SAO, so he can forget, or at least keep himself busy, from the thoughts of not being able to see his best friends, and even his girlfriend, yes girlfriend (he's still not used to saying that he has a girlfriend) back in the real world.

This world was beautiful. The warm breeze was comforting, like the caress of a lovers hand. It was gentle and almost seemed caring. That was one of the things Emi liked about this world, the wind. How it tickled her skin and sent shivers down her spine. She enjoyed it how it rippled through her long trickling hair, making her appearance like that of a heroin standing ready to battle, sword within hand.

How false that was. Two round blue orbs slowly fluttered open. Adjusting to the light, Emi realized where she was, she had fallen asleep on the grassy plain, underneath the shadow of a majestic tree. Stupid. Her arms stretched upward, momentarily brushing against her child like breasts as they ascended, she yawned and rubbed her misty eyes. Her days here had so far been pretty much the same. Training, training and training before falling asleep in any place that seemed acceptable. Though, the falling asleep part seemed to be taking up the majority of her time. She was no god powered warrior who was passionate about escaping. She liked it here, a little at least. She figured she needed to train and raise her level if she were ever to get a change of scenery. The Town of Beginners though large felt cramped and unbearing to her. Too many players had seemed to lost all hope of ever getting out and stayed put inside the safe zone of the town with their overly depressing attitudes, some had resorted to ending themselves. It was sad.

Growls of desperation came from Emi’s stomach. Ah, yes. She had yet to eat today. With a sigh, she rose up and began to adventure back towards the center of the town. She avoided and ignored the curious glances she received as she entered an inn, her stomach sounding more desperate by minute.

The red haired boy talked to her...and offered her a seat at their table? Maybe today was the day that she was waiting for. "It would be rude not to take up the offer, right?" Elise thought to herself. Elise looked up at him and put on the smile her parents taught her to do if guests came over. She took a deep breath in and reminded herself to be confident.
"S-sure," she stuttered. She decided that she would work on her verbal skills another day and stood up and followed the boy to the next table.
Standing in front of the table, she did her best to introduce herself, "Hello, my name is Elise...but you can call me Eli if you want..." She could hear her voice fading off into the distance. Elise did a small, but polite bow and sat down in the empty seat. She took another breath in. "What are your names?"
Before they could answer, another girl walked into the inn. "Wow, what pretty eyes," Elise thought to herself. She was sure that the other two at the table had noticed her too. The blonde haired girl looked around the room. All of the tables were just about filled. "I should invite her to sit...but I'm sure that boy will do it and his voice projection is a lot better than mine..." She shook her head. "No I have to do this."
Elise smiled and waved at the girl to catch her attention. "There's a seat here if you want it," she said in the clearest voice she could.

"S-Sure." The girl said in a small voice. She then got up and followed Ittoki to the other table. The girl introduced herself as "Elise". Ittoki greeted her, "Nice to meet ya, Eli-chan~! I'm Ittoki Otoya. You can call me Ikki... if you wanna, but just call me whateve!"

There was a blonde girl searching for a free table at the other end of the room. Ittoki waved and shouted over the crowd, "There's a seat here!"

Then he sat down and asked, "So how's SAO for you guys?"

Mya shared the last pieces of meat to the rest of the people who arrived at their table. "Oh, besides the part where we are stuck here for eternity until we finish and the part if we die, we die literally, the game's been great." She spoke sarcastically and pushed away her empty plate of food. "But seriously though, I really like this game and the interaction you can get in this game. It's totally unlike any other game I've played. And nice to meet ya new peeps who just joined us."

Ittoki laughed at the girl's negative comments about the game. "You're right... It's horrible to be stuck here. I miss my friends lots, especially my band mates. We were just taking a break from the idol--" Ittoki realized that he was revealing the fact that he was an idol. "O-Oh! Nevermind... Forget about what I said." He laughed sheepishly while ruffling his hair at the back of his head.

She had caught the waving girl out the corner of her eye. Odd. Other players were too absorbed with themselves or with each other to take notice.

Her eyes blinked several times, soaking up the faces of people in the bustle of the inn, as well as the available seats. There with none. So, that’s what you’re offering? Emi’s mouth shaped into an ‘o’. Her stomach growled again.
Tsk. She began to walk towards them, practicing what she would say to them over and over again. She would be calm and cold. Too much interaction always got you hurt. Interaction lead to friendship, trust and caring. Friendship and caring. She didn't know the meaning of those words. She had reached the table. With a confident figure, Emi looked down on the three people.
'Chair." She said simply, pointing towards the empty seat. Biting her tongue, she added a small please on the end.

    OOC: Whoa tsundere much?

    IC:

The girl silently stalked towards the table where Ittoki, Elise and Mya sat, weaving through the crowds. "Chair...please" she said standing in front of the new acquaintances, looking down upon them. Ittoki got up and untucked a chair for her. "Here ya go!" he said in his most cheerful voice, although in his head, Ittoki was thinking that the way she said that could have been a bit nicer... "So," he let that thought disappear back into the depths of his mind, "What's your name? Nice to meet you!" he smiled. "I'm Ittoki Otoya. Ittoki introduced the group to the newcomer, pointing at each girl respectively. "This is Elise, and..." He realized that he didn't know the other snow-haired girls name.

Many boars fell before her throughout the morning but by afternoon she realized how pointless it was to keep fighting them. Even in denial she saw that stronger monsters would be needed if she was ever going to get enough money to get her house and then enough to live comfortably here. But she wasn't leaving this town, not today anyway. And when she did she would make sure to come back because it was already her home as far as she was concerned.
Meerna rested in a safe spot out in the fields until her HP bar was full again before heading back into town. It seemed like a waste of daylight but to devoid herself of food would lead to nothing but trouble so she went to get some. But when she got to her usual place she found a rather loud group inside. They may have been around before, but she rarely remembered faces, especially with so many of them around, but she was sure that they were not regulars here. Or if they were they were never together or this annoying before or simply not here while she was.
Odd. Even as she told herself about how much she disdained them she found herself smiling and watching the group. Not many were happy with what happened to them but these, or at least one of them for sure, appeared to be okay. Maybe not okay with the situation but enough so to seem...happy? Trying to figure this out she forgot how weird it appeared to be staring at people so she continued to do so, more in a trance now than anything else.
