I went to start a new game on KH1, and it keeps freezing at the part where Sora's falling in the water. I've tried it like 20 times. I tried cleaning it with rubbing alchohol like 15 times. I can't get it to get past that part. Any suggestions on a better way to clean it?

EDIT: Ok, I looked at the disk a bit closer, and it's actually scratched, so no matter how many times I clean it, it won't fix it.

Now, my question is, is there a way to fix scratches?

It may not be because it's dirty. There could be a scratch on it.

use one of them dryer types of wet wipes, so its not too moist and won't kill the disc. This is probibly a last resort thing though.

Just drop a couple drops of water on it and then wipe it really quickly in a circular motion with the inside of a sweatshirt. That's how I clean them.

A Disk Doctor. Try to find one on ebay or overstock or google. But it would be alot better to have someone at gamestop or gamecrazy clean it for a few $$$.

Toothpaste is usually the best solution. Look up an indepth tutorial before you try though; I don't want you to slop on a bunch of toothpaste and ruin the disc. xD If all else fails, I think KHI goes for a few dollars on ebay.

I usually rub a little bit of peanut butter on my games if one of them freezes.
    That usually works for me.

As others said, go to Gamestop and spend a bit of money to see if they can fix the disc or buy a disc doctor kit. This may help or you will just have to replace the game. KH1 now is not that expensive to replace and there's no real home remedy to repairing a disc once it's scratched enough.

There are cleaning kits you can use to fix scratches on discs. Or go to a shop and have it cleaned there. Or, if you have a chipped ps2 you can copy the disc and if it's readable, the copy will be as good as new. If you have a mod chip, just say yes and I try to help you copy the disc.

I know there are those disc cleaner kits, but I always did it the old fasion way and ran it under some water and cleaned it off with a microfiber cloth. Try that first if you haven't already.

If the label on top is scratched out even a small bit, that can completely destroy your game.
So if it's that; buy a new game, cos I think there's no cure for that.

Possible cure for base scratches (Haven't tried myself):
    1. Here are the things you need.
    -Scratched CD
    -dry, soft cloth
    -another dry, soft cloth
    -vegetable oil

    2. Put the scratched CD on a table in front of you with the sticker facing down. Wipe the CD clean of dust with one soft, dry cloth, making sure you wipe from the inside out, never circular.

    3. Put ONE drop of vegetable oil on the other cloth and lightly dab the areas which are scratched. Make sure you don't put too much on though, use good judgment. Then wipe with the same oil cloth from the inside to the outside of the disc like you just did. Wipe the whole thing so you create a THIN layer of oil. Just use that one drop on your cloth, nothing else.

    4. Wait to dry for about an hour or so, then come back to it and take the soft dry cloth you first used without oil to wipe the disc clean of dust again.

    5. Insert game and play.
