I'm really excited for the new IPs that the main studio is gonna make. But considering how they have lost 55 million this past fiscal year, I'm thinking that Square is gonna stay on the safe side of things(which isn't a bad thing, of course) when these new IPs start out. But who knows?

On the contrary, next Square's top three series' it talks about two original IP's.

If i'm not mistaken TWEWY is one of their original IP's.
I smell a yet to be announced sequel/prequel...

Anyway, I can't wait for KH: 3D or FF versus XIII.

    Same here.

I'd rather it be a prequel though. There's not much left to tell about Neku and the gang at this point. All of the mysteries are about
Joshua and how he became composer, Hanekoma and how he became producer, and Kitaniji.

Hey as long as it has Joshua I'll play it xD
He's like the hottest character in that game xD I swear.

If they anted more money all they'd have to do is make KH3.

Amen to that, but KH:3D is the prequel to KH3 so they've gotta make that first...

Lol, if they wanted to make money, remake FFVII. It's not like they'd have to come up with a new story or redesign characters (they've stayed relatively the same and any updated models could be taken/referened from Dissidia) or even change things, it'd be a graphics and script update. Kind of like IV, but considering VII's still one of the top ROM downloads online...imagine how many would want to play a revamped version in HD.
I would give my firstborn child for that.

But either way, I'm excited, I really hope they can recover from that loss without cutting the quality of any future games. Given that they leared from the disaster XIV was, I don't think they'll do anything crazy.

They can't do that because Versus XIII is still in development. Yoko Shimomura is composing for that game and the main Kingdom Hearts team is working on Versus. Kinda sad that we have to wait so long.

Anyways...I wonder what those 10 IPs will be. There's 11 on that little chart thing and several unannounced IPs. I'm seriously doubting there'll be that many "strong" IPs. Hm. As always, I'll hope for something in the Mana series to be worked on.

While a FFVII remake would be awesome, I would much rather prefer that they finish all of the series that they've already promised to release first(like Versus, XII-2, Type-0, Kingdom Hearts DDD) and make some remakes somewhere in the middle. Plus if they just remade VII with just a graphics and script update, what would be the point? All of the other FF remakes have at least bothered to put something new into the games. I also want my V and VI remakes first 8D.

The 55 million that I mentioned that Square Enix lost last year was because they tightened up their selection standard so much that they canceled so many games that they felt weren't good enough. Hopefully this new selection standard will stop them from trying to appeal the West so much and to focus more on the games that they know everybody wants out. I also misread the article. The article focused on how much they lost in canceling games but in total they lost $197 million >>. I think a good amount of that could be attributed to the failure that was FF14

I didn't realize they had so many companies under their wing. I wondered why Steam announced a new Deus Ex title after all this time... Any rate, the only thing I'm really excited about is that and new KH titles, so whatever. Although I am keeping my eye on Versus XIII.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree that I want the new games, but I'm saying that if they really needed a source of income, VII would be the best one.
And that's true, but I'm not sure what else they could add to it without subtracting from what players have known for years. If they change or add something unusual, that could cause people to not like it as much.
I would also kill for remakes of those, considering the version of V I played crashed on me and I haven't been able to find VI, but those technically have already been remade from their original platforms.

And wow...that's pretty crazy, but imo XIV definitely had a big part in that. Hopefully they'll stick to what they're best at and not try another MMO, at least until they've figured out how to make a really good one and get fan loyalty back.

Well according to Square it'd take them 20 years to remake FFVII because, wait for it, it has towns. Yes, that's the main reason, Square Enix are doing things as if they're batshit insane and actually making the whole city, even the place we don't go, instead of just making it smoke and mirrors. God damn you Square!

I really doubt that Square will be able to make three new IPs that actually become popular and successful, Square just doesn't make that good new games anymore tbh. Still interested to see what these guys can dish out though.

They said it would take them 10 years if they were to do it with the same graphics as FFXIII. I think the problem is rather that ffVII isn' t a tiny straight line.

Don' t hold your breath, they said it would take them 3 to 5 years.

Oh, 10 years? My bad then, I was sure they had said 20 years. While that is true FFVII still somewhat linear and with a bit of planning it would definitely be possible to cut some corners on that thing, it's just that Square always want to go the hard way. When small time developers like Level 5 are able to make pretty damn big cities while Square are not you know something's wrong.

Well to be honest, 3 to 5 years really isn't that long when I think about the fact that I've been waiting for KH3 for 6 (?) years and Versus XIII pretty much the same. 3 to 5 years doesn't sound that long actually xD

I actually think that this is pretty good news for Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts fans. xD

They seem to be trying to refocus of sorts, lately it feels like they've stretched themselves kind of thin in an effort to cover such a huge market. I can only really speak about this in terms of the KH series since I don't really follow much else in Square land (aside from some general Final Fantasy interest), but think about it. The KH series has had so many spawn off titles on so many different and weird consoles, done by so many different development teams, it's no surprise that there's been so much inconsistency.

I hope that, as they are now saying that they're trying to focus, they'll go back to having more consistent games.

Overall though I think Square is a great company, I have no doubt I'll be satisfied with future titles. =] I've got faith in them. :3

I agree with Misty. They seriously need to refocus their attention to their core customers and market that they've built for themselves. However, I think even though they know Final Fantasy is popular, they need to start coming up with new ideas so that they can refresh the series. I personally really like Final Fantasy games, but I too see that they need to re-evaluate some things about it because soooo many people just hate the direction it's going.

Date correction aside, for all we know they could've very well done some work or planning on it. Square's good at keeping things secret, and it's not like the discussion of a VII remake hasn't been entertained by the company. Plus if they do make a whole city, I wouldn't be surprised if they recycle already-made structures and whatnot. They did have a fair amount of Edge, Midgar, and other places in Dirge of Cerberus and Advent Children, I'm sure they could finish quite quickly if they really, really wanted to.

I think that's what they tried to do with XIV, but...clearly that didn't work, lol. They probably won't be coming out with another MMO for a long while, if ever again. XI wasn't too bad, but definitely not one that most people you ask would answer as their favorite game in the series.
I wouldn't mind a refocus, I miss the more fantasy-themed games. I'm playing IV Complete right now and it really is just a whole different - and imo, better - experience than any of the PS2-onward games. I also wouldn't mind expansion because that could be a job opportunity Not to say that they suck, but X-XIII just aren't the same calibur of story and gameplay.

I know that the reason why FF XIII agito was changed to Type 0 was because SE was hoping to spin in into a series (thus type-0 through 3 have been copy righted)

So...thats most likely one of the un-named games that they are going to focus on.
