Hello everyone. I'm having a weird problem with sound on my computer. I keep running system restore and its a temporary fix. Three days later the problem reappears.
For those interested most songs in it are played....extremely....slow....like...this...at....one...word....at....a....time.....

So what could it be? A trojan horse maybe?

did you try running a scan with an anti virus software to see if you have a trojan on you pc assuming you have an anti virus software on you pc?

Yes I have and it doesn't say there are any problems. I even ran a system restore but every time I do that the problem appears three days later! I don't want to reformat my harddrive if I can avoid it.

What is happening with the sound? Is it flat out not working?

Not it works, but it's very buzzy. If I try to play a song, it plays it extremely slow.

First, are your sound drivers up to date? As odd as this sounds sometimes when new drivers are released the old ones start acting a bit glitchy. I'm not tech savy enough to know why, but trust me. I've seen it happen several times.

Second, try to remember any changes that you made when it started. Installing or updating a program, messing with settings, etc.

Also what operating system are you running?

The recent Windows Update was just upgrading Internet Explorer. Nothing major (unless the issues are occuring online).

Open up the start menu and go to the box that says "Search programs and files" and tye in "device manager" and hit enter. The device manager window should appear. Look in the list for "Sound, video and game controllers" double click on it to expand. In here you will find drivers for audio devices. Right click on each of the items in here and select "Update Driver Software..." and "Search automatically for updated driver software" This will bring all your audio drivers up to date.

If that doesn't work I can continue to try and help for as long as you want me to but I would mostly be grasping at straws. It likely means that something isn't compatible and without sitting down at your computer it would be hard for me to say what.

That appeared to help somewhat but it's still scratchy though not as bad as before. I haven't completely fixed it yet.

Out of curiosity what showed up in that category for you?

This is a program I like that is good at optimizing settings and removing relics from your computer. I'm not sure if it will help but it certainly can't hurt. It will advertise upgrading to a pro version, just ignore that. The free version is perfectly adequate.

Did you check if the playback speed is set to lower than normal?

Whenever i get a problem like this i just copy all my files to an external hardrive and reinstall Windows.

I know its not a very effecient or hassle free way to fix your computer. But it does usually get rid of the problem and gets rid of all the junk in your computer.

Im not saying go to this nor am i saying this is a good idea but if your not sure whats wrong "start fresh" xD

I think I might have assumed something here. Is the problem everywhere or just in a specific program?

Ok, that is what I thought. But looking back you didn't actually say that. Kubo's bit was for if it was a player that was messing up.

Again, I would reccommend using IObit's Advanced System Care

They just recently updated it and I can't promise a fix from it but there is a chance, and it includes a toolkit that is useful to have anyway.
