Hello, everyone. I wanted to get all of your opinions on this bill that is going to be voted on in the near future. And if you don't know what SOPA is.... Well, then look it up. Because it is VERY important. But I wanted to use the internet for one of my favorite things that I like to do, which is get everyone's opinion. One of the great miracles of the internet, I can get answers and opinions from people I don't even know! And that is really what I want: A bearing on what people are thinking about this bill. And please don't say: "SOPA sucks!" because that is not a legitimate arguement.

Now, I have know about this bill for quite some time, but since today is the black out, I figured now would be a good time to talk about it. Now, as we all know, SOPA, if passed, will do nothing to stop online piracy, but limit our ability to share things online. This site and all of it's AMV's would probably have to go due to it not being original content. But this bill... I don't know. It seems way to clumsy of a bill for congressmen to make. It just seems rather odd and shifty. I've come to the conclusion that the people who made this bill didn't really care about the whole piracy thing but simply wanted to control the internet. The internet is the one thing the government really has no control of! So I don't see why it's not so hard to believe that they wouldn't want to get control of it now. And this bill seems to outline just that. Control over the internet! But, I've told you what I think this bill is, now I want your input. What do you guys think of SOPA?

It's a bill built on ignorance and just lack of knowledge. You should add PIPA here as well, as SOPA is just an extreme version of PIPA. Many people think that SOPA is just to get the attention off of PIPA.

The only thing it does is to give large companies the chance of removing any kind of competition. In other words; No more indie games.

Keep in mind that a good amount of opinions that may appear in this thread are going to be based off of false knowledge as a lot of what you see online is a load of bs. More people need to read up on this before talking about it but I agree with Noroz. Keep your eyes on PIPA just as much as SOPA.

I believe that this bill is also based on ignorance, and I feel that it will cause many problems within the community, can you imagine how boring things would become without the internet? I don't know what the government is thinking but they need to realize that the next generation knows what is best for them, they had their time, now it's our time, it's our time to show them that we can maintain stability because I believe we know how to work technology alot better than them. That's how I feel about it.

It's a terrible bill and I support any effort dedicated to preventing it from being a reality. I support the government doing things but this is just too much. I like my internet the way it is.

In general, the whole idea sucks. Of course, that's not the end of my argument. What do we call this site? KH-Vids. Since the videos and music are technically copyrighted, this site could be blocked. Now, I don't actually live in the States; I live in Ecuador. But if this site were blocked for people in the States, it would be shut down sooner or later; and if that didn't happen, the bill would probably reach South America as well, and then it would end up being blocked for me as well. Then there's the fact that this forum has a thread devoted to SOPA; and most of us are objecting to it. This would also be blocked as well.

The government is gradually trying to take away all of our rights; even those guaranteed to us in the Constitution! Our freedom of speech is going to be taken away if this gets passed. As I said, this thread/site would be blocked, one of the reasons because of our objecting to SOPA; that's taking away that right. Now this may or may not be true, but I recently heard that something was passed where the US could declare our rights invalid (through emergency or something I think). All of these are steps towards harder times; times when we will no longer have any rights at all, and everything we thought was so good about America; that will all stab us in the back (yes even though I live in Ecuador I'm an American citizen [and no I'm not Ecuadorian either, just moved here for some odd reason]).

EDIT: I did also read that the bill has been postponed. Yeehaw!

EDIT2: If this bill did pass, it would be just another step forward in the destruction of our rights.

Yeah, I meant to add that one as well. But everyone seems so focused on SOPA (Which is probably the goal, in order to keep attention off of PIPA). See, what I don't understand, Is why try to pass two bills that are practically the same? Sure, they both have different ways of going about it, but they ultimately do the same damage. Is congress just trying to throw stuff to the wall and see what sticks? I guess they think that if one fails maybe the other will pass? I don't know.

But thank you all for your imput. If anyone esle would like to say something, please do!
