Video Sony Vegas vs Adobe Premiere...

what's you're opinion on these two editing programs?

i'm considering getting the premiere package that they have at the apple store that comes with illustrator, CS2, etc. i've looked at a couple of impressing AMVs that were made with Vegas so i'm not entirely sure on which program would be better.

anyone have their opinion on which is better and why? thanx. ;3

 

Neither. They both suck. But I use Vegas 7.0 with the use of Power Director (Some Movie Maker that is very similar to Windows Movies Maker except waa--aaay better) to convert some Xvid compressed AVI files to MPEG2 for Vegas to read, since Vegas is so lame to the fact that can only read DV AVI files (just about it in the AVI section). If you can afford $500 plus $100 more, then get both Vegas and Power Director.

By the way, vids completely depend on the maker 99.99% of the time. Newbies shouldn't use Vegas, but they can use Power Director.

Example? A experienced person makes a vid through WMM while a newbie makes a vid through Vegas. Who wins? WMM (AKA experience dude)

 

That's very, very true. It doesn't only depend on the software, it also depends on your experience with it. I'm sure I could make much better videos in WMM right now than I can in Vegas.

I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio, by the way. It was only ninety bucks (not exactly cheap, but not close to as expensive as the other versions), and the only difference (that really stands out to me, anyway) between Movie Studio and the whole Vegas deal is you can't mask on Vegas Movie Studio. You can still layer, though, so I don't consider it exactly bad. I don't need masking.

I suppose it depends on your personal preference. I like Vegas.

 

I only use my Vegas 6.0 for masking and a few other things. Everything else I do in Roxio 9...

 

Both editors are very good. You can make great AMVs with both once you know how they work.

I'd say Vegas for now since I haven't had much experience with Premiere Pro yet, but I've seen amazing videos for both. So it's a hard decision.

 

that's true. still, i like having a good enough workspace. but, i'll consider vegas, possibly. i'm currently working with magix edit pro 10. it's GREAT, but, i'm not entirely sure with sticking with it.

As for the discussion.

Both are very good and about on par in terms of what they can do. But I feel Premiere is better because of the easy connection between Photoshop and After effects, using all 3 together you can make an AMV like no other, with more options available to you.

 

how bout something for Ubuntu Linux?
cuz Ubuntu offers a great system but i havent found a good program.
plz help me out!

Got $600 bucks? Buy Vegas 7 & PowerDirector. Done.

But I know there are better products out there.

 

Well I've never used Premiere, I use Vegas. From what I've seen of it, it's really good to make videos with.

 

What version of Vegas? I use 7. But 6 and 7 are about the same except 7 has a bit more things added...i guess...

 

I use 7 Platinum... unfortunately for me I can't Mask.
