Sony Sony introduces the Cross Buy Program (Buy for PS3, get Vita version Free)

Well they said they were going to do this since the PSV's release, so yeah, good to see it actually happening.

 

Sony's strategy is baffling me, but this is very nice for the people who own both.

 

It makes me very happy since there are games on the Vita I would like but I awready have them on the PS3. I don't want to pay twice for the same game.. I hope other companies will follow suit (Especially for when FFX arrives).

 

Oh definitely, if you had to buy both versions of the same game it would be a bit silly (although Square will probably not follow suit). However, as far as a marketing strategy I don't see this as all that smart. They are essentially trying to push that the Vita is exactly the same as the Ps3, and in that case, why would people want to buy it? It's not bad for the people who actually own it, but it just seems like a bad strategy in my eyes.

 

It might backfire or it may help their Vita sales. Getting a free game with a game you purchase is a nice incentive. And I can't really see folk buying the same game twice (at least not many) so I don't think they'd lose much money if they offer it free. Might tempt them to buy the PS3 version in the first place.

 

We'll have to see how it works out for Sony, but for now you and the other Ps3+Vita owners should just be happy about it.

Well, if I had both a PS3 and a Vita, I could see myself getting into this. Playing the games I have at home when I'm out and about is a pretty neat thing, and that way, I wouldn't have to pay for the same game twice. This could also discourage purchasing used games, because if somebody who sold the game to like Gamestop had already used their code to get the Vita game, the buyer won't get it.
