You guys all know I'm going for a year of service right? If not, make sure you pay more attention to my posts. Anyways, I checked my email earlier and found out I'm actually being invited for a year of service. I was applying and everything, getting ready to go, trying to get that third reference in, and now I get invited. I wonder if it's because how much trouble I've been going through just to get in a single reference. But this works a little better in my opinion. What do you guys think? Did I luck out, or do you guys think they seriously just got tired of that whole reference problem? Or maybe they saw that I really wanted to go there. Either way, within a week I should be getting a packing list sent to me, and some papers for my parents to sign, and I'm perfectly set to leave for a year of service this summer. Good thing I'm bringing my laptop. I don't know how I'd survive without it. That, and they say there's no cell service, so they say to bring a laptop so you can skype your family. Edit: Apparently within the past few months I haven't made clear about the service....not sure how, considering when you think about it, it can't be military. It's volunteering service. You know, like when you can go over-seas or whatever and help out for a year? Except I'm going to a Redwood Forest in California
Well congrats on getting invited :) I don't think they were getting tired of the whole reference problem. They most likely saw how determined you were to get into service, so they decided to invite you. ^^ Ah! No cell service! >.< Yes, good thing indeed you have a laptop! Xp
Congratulations :) It's great if you can get to do something you really think is worthwhile. Best of luck with everything
More people commit suicide in the service than die in battle. You will hate it. You may do things you cannot take back. You will probably see things you cannot tell anyone about. You will have lost any hope of respect you had from me if you kill someone under orders or see a rape happen and do not kill the perpetrator.
Hm the first comment back I see from you :) No change then. War and service are subjects fraught with grey and grey morality. There will never ever be a time when all people believe it's either right or wrong. Conscientious objectors in WW2, cowards who would have let their country be invaded, or simply people who would not, under any circumstances, want to murder another human being? All I can say is you must know your own, personal morals, figure out what you think is right and wrong and never sway from that. And stay safe okay? :)
Guys, what did I say that made you believe I was talking about military? You do know you can't even sign up for a year of military right? My brother signed up for the shortest time possible, and that was 6 years. This is a year of service, not a year of military.
It's volunteering service, for crying out loud. Guys, I've been saying I'm headed to a forest in California. Would you tell me why there'd be a National Guard there? And for that matter, when's the last time you saw someone from the military invite you to serve? Actually, if that happened, my mom would kill me....or at least injure me enough that I never went into military. Yes, yes you do.
Sorry, that's the first I've heard about it. Have fun and be sure to bring plenty of insect repellent. Those teddy bear picnics can get a bit wild. Better to have the National Guard on ready before someone gets hurt. Aren't they desperate to get folk to join? xD
No bear attacks have happened at Bosch in years, even since I've gone there. It's not really in the right kind of area for bears. It's more likely you see deer and stuff I know they're not that desperate
Believe it or not, they are picky. They told me that I'm not allowed to join just cuz I have a thyroid problem. I take a pill for it. that's it. and honestly I've gone months without taking it and without feeling a difference. It's not like if it was a huge deal for them to provide me with the meds, and they decided they didn't want to pay for them, then I could always forgo the pills, imo. But congratz on getting invited, and thanks for providing service to an important forest like that. More people like you are needed. :/
Oh Makaze I must say I missed seeing you around the forums XDDD Have fun Aqua ^_^ See a lot of different animals okay?
Funny story right, I actually didn't think you'd meant the military until I saw what Makaze wrote. I assumed Makaze knew more than me about what was going on...Must be the authoritative way of saying things. Cue me jumping to the defence :) That being said, I'm still not entirely sure what you mean by 'service'. In a forest, wha? Maybe just being a brit our forests are not big enough to serve in. So you mean being like a park warden?
no, I mean like helping out at a camp in the middle of a redwood forest in California. It's just a little place people go to for different things. I went there every year during the 4 years I lived in Reno, Nevada, and I really enjoyed it. That's why it was the first place that I put on the list that I wanted to volunteer at. There were 2 other places in Michagin and Maine, but I just wanted to go to the place i enjoyed the most BTW, don't ever take things that Makaze says seriously, especially if it has to do with things about me. He's pretty much always wrong

I would like to say that I asked someone else about it before posting, so I felt alright in my assumption. Just for the record. Thanks to those who missed me. It means a lot to me. Sorry about that, but it was the first thing that came to mind. I wonder how many would agree with you...
