I just need a few tips on shading. I have photoshop and such but when ever I look up for tutorials they always involve a tablet. Anyone want to help with that, I currently need it until christmas when I will be receiving a tablet. Also some inking, I know how to use pen but it doesn't always turn out so great.

Well I color manga without a template all the time, it's not really that ace stuff but I do pay attention to the shading.

Keep in mind I have no artistic lessons or anything, I just fiddle around 'till I find something I like.

I usually have around three or four colors to start with: the base tone, which I paint on in a layer and lock. Then I make a new layer and, with a shade slightly darker (but more saturated) than the base tone, I paint where I want the shadows to be. Use a hard brush too, you can blend it later. Do the same thing but with lighter tones. When you've got things where you want them, I use smudge tool to blend it all. I normally will just use a soft circle brush with very few (if any) settings on it. I keep the strength around 70% - 98%. I switch constantly and use swishing motions.

It's a bit hard to explain but I hope I helped.
