Are theaters even able to give refunds?

And it's a "horror" movie that was released in August; what did they expect out of it? I've heard mixed reviews, and I have yet to see it, but I am curious about it only because I still have trust in Sam Rami.

He's a competent director (Drag Me to Hell) and he was a producer on the American Grudge films! Which weren't totally bad (the first two were really good in my opinion, and the third one was bad, but is enjoyable)

People do read the papers on the front of theaters that say there's no refunds once you buy the tickets, right? They have no one to blame but themselves, and don't theaters have cameras or something? I just really don't see any sort of justification saying that you stole anything, but you could probably say "they stole whatever time of my life I could be doing something else, or talking with a nicer person"

We give refunds if it's within the first 30 mins of the film.

And because of all the refund/void transactions, it messes up stuff with their POS system and makes my register come up short

So, all of them left within the first half hour? Don't they know that in most horror movies, the good stuff happens well into half way through? Don't they know anything about story telling or three act structure?

yeah but in general, if a movie isn't good within the first ten minutes, you should get a refund, because it's not worth your time.

Same with a book or story. if it doesn't immediately pull you in, it's not good enough.

That's not fair, though. It takes time to build up a story. For example, I just saw the movie "Win Win", which was a really good movie. The first ten minutes though we're slow. There are a number of great movies that take their time to tell a story,

I guess you have to do that though, since we live in an instant gratification kind of culture. Some people just need to learn to be patient and watch a movie. I'm willing to bet that at least half of those people who wanted their tickets back are also people who were on their phones during the movie.

Do people not read movie reviews before going to see them?

To each their own I guess. I liked it because it just told a really good story and is a lot more competently made than most other horror films. It actually made me jump the first time I watched it, which is rare for me and scary movies. And the fact that it is pg-13, and can be effective as it was, is amazing in my eyes,

Plus, in an industry that is very over saturated with slashers, it's good to see some variety.

I personally have terrible ADD, I can't sit through shows or movies very well. Avengers was entertaining, then the ending made me all antsy, so movies HAVE to have my attention immediately.

I never do if it's a film I plan on seeing in theaters. I don't want to have any preconceived notions that will affect my enjoyment.
...I'm sure most directors and writers think "Wait. Someone watching this may have ADD. Let's just jump into the action right a****ingway. Ditch all storytelling structure!" Not saying that a movie that jumps right into it is automatically bad, but stories tend to build up.

Straight action bores me. Movies have to have a gripping plot. I hate most action. I didn't like The Expendables, or any of the Die Hard Movies, or Transformers.

Fight Club is my favorite, and I really liked how to Train Your Dragon. The Four-Faced Liar is a good one too, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
